Chapter 10 - A BRAND NEW SUNRISE (HAPPY ENDING)

Two years later.
The early morning sun rose over the rolling hills, casting a warm, golden blanket of light across the backyard of our new country home.
It was a beautiful four-acre property just outside the city, complete with a sprawling workshop for my business, a massive green lawn, a wooden treehouse we had built together, and a brand-new swimming pool.
"Ethan! Breakfast is ready!" I called out from the back patio, setting down a platter of fresh pancakes, bacon, and orange juice onto the wooden table.
"Coming, Dad!"
Ten-year-old Ethan came running out of the house, followed closely by our energetic golden retriever puppy, Cooper, who bounced excitedly beside his feet.
Ethan was taller now, strong, healthy, and filled with a quiet confidence that made my heart swell with pride every single day. He was the top student in his fifth-grade class and the captain of his local youth soccer team.
He sat down at the table, topping his pancakes with syrup, while Cooper rested his head on Ethan’s knee, waiting for a piece of bacon.
"Slow down, soccer star," I laughed, pouring him a glass of fresh orange juice. "The pancakes aren't going anywhere."
"I have a big game at two o'clock today, Dad!" Ethan said between bites. "Coach said if we win today, we go to the state championship!"
"I know," I smiled, sitting down across from him. "Marcus and Sarah are coming to watch you play. We’ve got the front row reserved."
Ethan looked around our spacious, sunny backyard—at the blooming flower beds, the tall oak trees, the treehouse hanging securely from a massive branch, and the sparkling water of the pool.
He set his fork down, leaning back in his chair, a deep sense of contentment washing over his young face.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, buddy?"
"Do you ever think about how different everything used to be?" he asked quietly, looking at me with mature, thoughtful eyes.
I took a sip of my coffee, looking at my son. "Sometimes, Ethan. But mostly, I just think about how lucky I am to be your dad."
Ethan smiled—a warm, radiant, beautiful smile that lit up the entire patio.
"I’m lucky too, Dad," he said softly. "We built the best life ever."
"Yes, we did, buddy," I replied, holding up my coffee cup. "To us."
Ethan held up his glass of orange juice, clinking it against my cup with a clear, ringing sound.
"To us," he cheered.
As the morning sun climbed higher into the clear blue sky, warming the air with promises of a bright, beautiful future, I knew in my heart that our journey was complete.
The nightmare was over. The pain was gone.

We had built a sanctuary of love, trust, and unwavering devotion—a sanctuary where my son would grow, thrive, and shine forever.
