Chapter 5 - The Siege of the Mansion

With Dominic, Hector, and Detective Miller down, Victor Wolfe panicked.
Realizing his legal protections were crumbling and his empire was being dismantled piece by piece, the patriarch pulled his remaining four sons—Julian, Gabriel, Lucian, and the terrified Mason—into his private, heavily fortified estate in the upscale hills overlooking the city.
The Wolfe Mansion was a literal fortress: ten-foot stone walls, infrared perimeter sensors, bulletproof glass, and fifteen heavily armed private mercenaries patrolling the grounds with automatic carbines.
By 2200 hours, a violent thunderstorm rolled over the estate, blinding the security cameras with sheets of rain and lightning flashes.
I sat in a black SUV parked a quarter-mile up the mountain road, dressed in full tactical gear—black load-bearing vest, suppressed submachine gun, combat boots, and night-vision goggles strapped to my helmet.
Beside me on the passenger seat lay a laptop displaying the mansion’s electrical grid, which I had just breached using a military-grade malware worm provided by an old Delta tech specialist.
My comms earpiece chimed. "Marcus, this is Vance. We have Miller in custody. He’s singing like a canary. We have federal arrest warrants for Victor and the rest of the family."
"Keep your SWAT team at the bottom of the hill for twenty minutes, Vance," I replied, adjusting the straps on my vest.
"Marcus, don't do this!" Vance warned frantically. "That estate is a death trap! They have fifteen private security guards armed with Class 3 weapons! You can't take that house alone!"
"I'm not taking the house, Agent Vance," I murmured, staring at the lit windows of the mansion through the rain. "I'm executing a hostage rescue protocol. The hostage is justice."
I pressed ENTER on the laptop keyboard.
COMMAND EXECUTED: GRID SHUTDOWN.
A mile away, the high-voltage transformer on the pole supplying the estate exploded in a shower of blue sparks.
Instantly, the entire Wolfe estate went pitch black. The perimeter lights vanished, the security cameras died, and the electronic gates locked up.
"Power's out!" a guard shouted over the mansion's internal radio frequency, which I was monitoring through my scanner. "Backup generator should engage in ten seconds!"
Ten seconds in pitch darkness is an eternity to a civilian. To a Delta Force operator, it is a lifetime.
I leaped over the outer stone wall, landing silently on the grass.
Through my green-tinted thermal night-vision goggles, the world lit up clearly. The fifteen guards were stumbling around in the dark, shining white flashlights into the rain, screaming confused orders at one another.
I moved through the courtyard like a ghost.
Thwip. Thwip.
My suppressed weapon coughed twice. Two guards near the eastern patio dropped instantly as non-lethal, high-impact rubber baton rounds struck their nervous centers, knocking them unconscious instantly.
I swept through the lower gardens, taking out three more guards with swift, silent hand-to-hand takedowns—elbow strikes to the jaw, sweeps to the legs, pressure-point strikes to the neck.
In less than three minutes, eight of the fifteen guards were neutralized without a single fatal round being fired. I wasn't here to become a murderer; I was here to show these monsters the absolute superiority of professional discipline over arrogant violence.
I reached the grand glass patio doors of the main house. Using a glass-cutter, I sliced a neat circle near the lock, reached inside, and unlatched the door.
I stepped into the silent, dark foyer of the Wolfe mansion.
From the grand staircase above, Julian Wolfe’s voice echoed nervously through the dark, accompanied by the racking sound of an AR-15 rifle bolt.

"I know you're in here, soldier boy!" Julian screamed, his voice high-pitched with terror. "Come out and face us like a man!"
I smiled in the darkness, thumbing my weapon’s fire selector switch. "You don't want me to fight like a man, Julian," I called back, my voice echoing from everywhere and nowhere in the vast marble room. "You want me to fight like the nightmare you created."
