Chapter 7 - The Unraveling Empire

Over the next two months, Eleanor’s life collapsed with surgical precision.

Deprived of bail, she sat in a county cell while her legal team frantically tried to stem the financial hemorrhage outside.

Without Eleanor’s presence to manage her brand, her manager abandoned her. The publishing house that had slated her upcoming book on "Grandparenting with Grace" canceled her contract and filed a three-million-dollar lawsuit to recover their advance, citing breach of morality clauses.

At the same time, my cybersecurity team conducted a full forensic audit of Eleanor’s personal accounts.

We discovered that for three years, Eleanor had been quietly mismanaging funds from the County Family Foundation—using charitable donations meant for single mothers to pay for her luxury wardrobe, her social media management team, and her expensive cosmetic procedures.

I handed every single bank statement, tax filing, and digital record over to the State Attorney General’s Economic Crimes Division.

One rainy Tuesday afternoon, Arthur Vance called me into his office.

"The State Attorney General has officially filed twelve federal counts of wire fraud, embezzlement, and grand larceny against Eleanor," Vance revealed, sliding the new indictment across his oak desk. "On top of the domestic abuse and child endangerment charges, she is facing a mandatory minimum of fifteen years in state prison."

"Is she offering a plea deal?" I asked.

"Her lawyer called me an hour ago," Vance smiled faintly. "She is terrified of prison. She’s willing to sign a complete, irrevocable forfeiture of all claims to your estate, execute a permanent, lifetime global restraining order, and surrender every asset she owns to pay restitution to Clara—if the prosecution agrees to drop the felony domestic abuse charges."

I stood up, adjusting my jacket.

"Tell her defense lawyer that we refuse any plea deal that removes the domestic abuse conviction," I said firmly. "She needs to be exposed for exactly what she did to my wife. She goes to trial."
