Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The glass-walled board room on the eightieth floor of the Drake AI tower in downtown Seattle was suffocatingly tense. Twelve directors sat around the polished mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Arthur Drake, a sharp-featured man in his seventies with hair as white as silver and eyes as cold as flint.

"Griffin's personal judgment is compromised," Arthur was telling the board, his voice brimming with false regret. "Hiding an entire family for nearly ten years while running a publicly traded enterprise demonstrates a profound lack of transparency—"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Griffin stepped into the room, impeccably dressed in a tailored charcoal suit. But he wasn't alone. Walking proudly at his side was Sloan, dressed in a sleek navy suit, her posture commanding and erect. Behind them walked two legal representatives carrying thick leather-bound binders.

Arthur's smug smile vanished instantly. His eyes widened in genuine shock as he locked eyes with the woman he had threatened nine years prior.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Griffin announced, his voice echoing through the room. "And hello, Arthur."

"This is an executive board session, Griffin," Arthur sneered, quickly regaining his composure. "Unauthorized personnel are not permitted—"

"I am not unauthorized," Sloan spoke up, her voice clear, sharp, and ringing with absolute authority. She stepped forward and laid a document directly in front of the lead independent director. "My name is Sloan Vance. I am the co-founder of Vance & Associates Architecture, and I am the primary legal custodian of Griffin Drake’s daughters."

She turned her gaze to Arthur, her eyes burning with righteous fury.

"Nine years ago, Arthur Drake committed tortious interference, blackmail, and corporate extortion to force me out of this city. We have recovered the original audio recording of the meeting he forced upon me at my apartment, alongside bank transfer receipts showing funds he siphoned from Drake AI subsidiary accounts to hire private investigators to stalk my family."

The boardroom erupted into stunned murmurs. The lead director slammed his hands on the table, reading through the documents Sloan had provided.

Griffin leaned over Arthur, placing both hands flat on the mahogany table, trapping his father in his seat.

"You tried to ruin my life, Arthur," Griffin whispered with lethal calm. "You tried to rob my daughters of their father. Effective five minutes ago, the board has received a formal legal injunction. If you do not resign from your position as Chairman immediately and surrender your voting proxies, federal prosecutors will serve you with indictment papers for grand larceny and wire fraud before lunch."

Arthur stared at his son, then at Sloan, realizing with sudden, crushing finality that his empire of lies had completely shattered. He slowly pushed his chair back, stood up, and walked out of the room without uttering a single word.
