Chapter 8 - Rebuilding from the Ashes

Three months had passed since the trial. The spring thaw had come to Denver, replacing the bitter winter ice with blooming wildflowers and warm, gentle breezes.

The Cherry Hills estate had been completely renovated. Chloe had hired a team of designers to strip away every single trace of Ryan’s presence. The dark, heavy furniture was gone, replaced by bright, airy spaces filled with plants, art, and the cheerful sounds of baby Liam’s laughter.

Daniel stood on the back patio, watching Chloe push Liam in a custom-built swing attached to a massive oak tree. Her skin was glowing, her laughter ringing out across the manicured lawn.

"She looks like herself again," Mr. Bennett said, stepping out onto the patio to join Daniel.

"No," Daniel replied, a proud smile on his face. "She looks stronger than herself. She’s no longer the girl who needed protection. She’s a mother who knows her own worth."

"We’ve finalized the asset recovery," Bennett reported, handing Daniel a final set of papers. "Every single penny of the three million dollars has been returned to her accounts. In addition, the Sullivans' personal belongings were auctioned off to cover the remaining legal fees. They have absolutely nothing left."

"Good," Daniel said. "And how are they enjoying their new accommodations?"

Bennett chuckled. "Patricia is serving her time in a maximum-security women's facility in Texas. From what I hear, she is not adapting well to the lack of luxury. Ryan is in a federal penitentiary in Florence. He’s spent the last month trying to appeal his sentence, but no lawyer will touch his case. He is officially a social pariah."

"Let them rot," Daniel said coldly, before his expression softened as Chloe waved at him from the lawn. "Come on, Bennett. Let’s go join my family."

As they walked down the steps, Chloe met them halfway, holding Liam in her arms. The baby was growing fast, with bright blue eyes that looked curiously at the world around him.

"Thank you, Uncle Daniel," Chloe said softly, leaning her head against his shoulder. "For everything."

"You don't need to thank me, sweetheart," Daniel said, kissing her forehead. "You did the hard work. You survived."

"We survived," Chloe corrected, looking down at her son. "And we are going to thrive."
