Chapter 2 - THE COLLAPSE AT THE VENUE

By 10:00 A.M., the grand gates of the Grandview Estate—the city's most prestigious wedding venue—were blocked by three luxury moving vans and two police cruisers.

The scene was pure, unadulterated chaos.

Guests in formal silk dresses and tuxedos were arriving in limousines, only to be stopped at the outer guardhouse. The venue staff, acting under strict orders from corporate legal council, refused to let anyone enter the ballroom.

In the center of the driveway stood Tyler, wearing a $3,000 custom tuxedo, his face bright red, screaming at the general manager. Beside him, my father, Arthur Vance, was waving his hands frantically, attempting to pull out his black credit card.

"I don't care about the corporate guarantor!" Arthur roared at the venue manager, Mr. Henderson. "I’m Tyler’s father! Take my card! Put the $120,000 on this card right now and open those doors!"

Mr. Henderson, an stoic man in his late fifties, didn't even blink. He looked down at Arthur’s card and then at his tablet screen.

"Mr. Vance," Henderson said smoothly, his voice carrying across the crowd of murmuring wedding guests. "This is not merely a matter of swipe-and-pay. The original contract was issued under the corporate liability umbrella of Sterling Global Enterprises. Your son, Tyler, signed an indemnity agreement stating that if corporate funding was withdrawn, a cash bond of $150,000 plus security insurance had to be deposited seventy-two hours prior to the event."

"Seventy-two hours?!" Tyler shrieked, his voice cracking like a panicked teenager’s. "Julian was supposed to maintain the corporate clearance!"

"And Mr. Julian Vance—the Senior Vice President of Operations—personally signed a legal release at 5:30 this morning, completely removing his company and his personal estate from any financial association with you," Henderson replied coldly. "Unless you have $150,000 in certified cashier's checks right now, this property remains locked."

At that moment, a sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb.

The back door opened, and Chloe’s father, Harrison Montgomery—a multi-millionaire real estate tycoon—stepped out. Chloe followed right behind him, her stunning $15,000 designer lace wedding gown trailing behind her in the gravel, her face streaked with black mascara.

"What is the meaning of this, Tyler?!" Harrison demanded, his voice like thunder. "My daughter is crying in the back of a car! The florist just told me their payment bounced! You told me your family owned a private share in this venue's parent corporation!"

Tyler swallowed hard, looking around desperately for a way out. "Mr. Montgomery... Harrison... please, listen to me! It’s my brother! Julian is trying to sabotage me! He’s jealous because I’m getting married and he’s just an employee!"

"Jealous?" a voice echoed from the side walkway.

Everyone turned.

I stepped out from around the fountain, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, carrying a thick leather binder. Sarah walked beside me, wearing an elegant dark navy dress, looking calm and poised.

Mom gasped, rushing forward to grab my arm. "Julian! Thank God you’re here! Tell them! Tell Mr. Montgomery that you made a mistake on the paperwork! Fix this right now!"

I gently, firmly brushed Mom’s hand off my sleeve.

"I didn't make a mistake, Mom," I said loudly enough for Harrison Montgomery and all the assembled guests to hear clearly.

I turned to Harrison Montgomery and opened the binder.

"Mr. Montgomery, my name is Julian Vance. I am the actual Senior VP of Sterling Global. My brother Tyler does not own shares in this venue. He works as a low-level sales representative at an auto dealership. The $120,000 corporate package he promised you was a perk assigned exclusively to me as part of my executive compensation package."

Harrison’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he glared at Tyler. "What?"

"Three months ago," I continued smoothly, "Tyler lied to you, claiming his family was funding this wedding. Then he came to me on his knees, begging me to use my corporate benefit so he wouldn't look like a fraud in front of your wealthy family. I agreed out of foolish family loyalty."

Chloe gasped, staring at Tyler in pure horror. "Tyler... you lied to my dad?!"

"He’s lying! Julian is lying!" Tyler screamed, pointing a shaking finger at me. "He’s doing this because he’s crazy!"

"I cancelled the contract at 5:30 AM today," I said, looking directly at Tyler. "Because last night, at my six-year-old daughter’s birthday party—which was hosted in the secondary hall—Tyler took her custom birthday cake, threw it upside down into a public dumpster, broke her birthday crown, and laughed in my face, saying my little girl 'wasn't worth wasting cake on.'"

The crowd of wedding guests went dead silent.

Harrison Montgomery looked at the broken, pathetic man standing in the tuxedo, then looked at my father and mother, who were both hanging their heads in absolute shame.

Harrison turned to his daughter. "Chloe. Get in the car."

May you like

"Dad..." Chloe sobbed.

"Get in the car right now," Harrison ordered, his voice cold as ice. "The wedding is cancelled."
