Chapter 10 - A New Dawn
The wedding was small, private, and held on the grassy cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan as the summer sun began to rise. The only guests were Sarah Jenkins, a few close friends from Robert’s faculty days, and the local residents who had welcomed them into the community.
Robert stood at the altar, looking stunningly handsome in a simple linen suit. His eyes were fixed on Mariana as she walked down the grass path, wearing a simple, elegant white dress that flowed in the lake breeze. She carried a bouquet of wild sunflowers, her face glowing with a peace she hadn't known since her youth.

The minister pronounced them husband and wife, and as Robert pulled Mariana into a deep, passionate kiss, the small crowd erupted into heartfelt cheers. The sun finally broke through the horizon, casting a brilliant, golden glow across the water, illuminating the beginning of their new chapter.
One year later, the South Side development site had been fully decontaminated and transformed into a sprawling public park and educational center, funded entirely by the liquidated Vance assets. At the entrance of the park stood a bronze plaque dedicated to the resilience of the community and the preservation of truth.
On a warm afternoon, Mariana and Robert walked through the park, holding hands. The sound of children laughing and playing filled the air, a beautiful contrast to the toxic silence that had once defined the land.
