Chapter 7 - The Revelation

The silence that struck the private dining room of the Aero Club was absolute, a heavy, suffocating weight that seemed to drop the temperature in the room by twenty degrees.

Vanessa’s breath caught in her throat, her eyes widening until the whites showed completely. She took three staggered steps backward, her hand flying to her mouth. Daniel’s smug smile vanished so fast it looked as if his face had been struck by physical force. He froze, his arm still awkwardly hanging in the air where Vanessa’s waist had just been.

I stood at my full height, six-foot-two, my posture immaculate, shoulders broad and unbroken. I adjusted the cuffs of my bespoke tuxedo jacket, looking down at the two traitors with an icy, predatory amusement.

"You... you can walk," Vanessa whispered, her voice a thin, choked screech. "The medical reports... the T-12 paraplegia... it was a lie?"

"The only lie in this room, Vanessa, was the illusion that you ever loved me," I said, my voice booming through the acoustics of the room, completely devoid of the weakness I had projected for weeks. "And the illusion that my 'best friend' here had a single ounce of competence or loyalty."

"Julian, wait," Daniel stammered, his face turning an industrial shade of gray as he reached for his phone. "The... the board meeting... I have your proxy! I registered the Power of Attorney three hours ago!"

"I know you did, Daniel," I said, taking a slow, measured step toward him. The sound of my leather shoes clicking firmly against the hardwood floor sounded like a death knell. "And I want to thank you for that. Marcus, activate the secondary screen."

The massive projector screen at the end of the dining room, usually reserved for corporate presentations, flickered to life. Instead of financial graphs, it displayed a live, encrypted stream of the Sterling Enterprises corporate registry, alongside a video file that began playing automatically.

The video showed Daniel’s loft. The timestamp was from three nights ago. The audio was crystal clear.

"Once the crippled idiot signs the proxy," Daniel’s voice boomed from the speakers, his video self pouring wine for Vanessa, "we vote him out on medical incompetence. Martin will back me as CEO, and once the share price dips from the news, we buy up his remaining stock for pennies on the dollar. The virus on his brake lines should have killed him, but this is even better. We get the empire without the murder charge."

The room erupted into absolute chaos. The journalists Vanessa had invited to document my humiliation were now furiously snapping photos of the screen, their flashes illuminating Daniel and Vanessa’s terror like a crime scene.

"That's illegal surveillance!" Vanessa screamed, turning on the reporters. "Turn those cameras off! Delete those files!"

"It’s perfectly legal, Vanessa, considering the cameras were installed in a property owned by a subsidiary of Sterling Enterprises," I noted calmly. "Namely, the loft Daniel lives in rent-free. But more importantly, Daniel... check your phone. You should have received a notification from the corporate bank."

Daniel’s hands shook violently as he unlocked his screen. A sharp, choking gasp escaped his lips.

"What... what is this?" he whispered, his eyes scanning the alert. "This is impossible... my shares... my personal option blocks... they’ve been transferred!"

"The Power of Attorney document you stole from my desk had a few minor modifications made by my legal team," I explained, leaning against the edge of the long dining table, looking entirely at ease. "The moment you registered it with the corporate secretary, you triggered a bad-faith clause within our partnership agreement. By attempting to execute a hostile proxy using a document obtained through fraudulent means, you automatically forfeited your entire equity stake back to the founding family trust. As of three hours ago, Daniel, you own zero percent of Sterling Enterprises. You are fired. And the police are waiting downstairs to arrest you both for attempted murder and corporate conspiracy."
