Chapter 3 - HIDDEN LEGACY UNLOCKED

For the next three days, I remained at the private clinic, slowly regaining my physical strength. My pale cheeks regained their color, my fever subsided, and for the first time since giving birth, I experienced the quiet joy of bonding with my daughter without Vivian’s harsh criticisms hovering over my shoulder.
On the fourth morning, Julian entered my room accompanied by an elderly gentleman carrying a leather briefcase.
"Clara, this is Mr. Arthur Vance," Julian introduced. "He was our late father's head estate attorney."
I looked up in surprise. "Mr. Vance? I haven't seen you since Dad passed away five years ago."
Arthur Vance gave me a warm, compassionate smile as he set the briefcase on the bedside table. "It is good to see you recovering, Clara. I am only sorry that I must deliver this news under such stressful circumstances."
Arthur opened the briefcase and pulled out a stack of thick, gold-embossed legal documents.
"When your father passed," Arthur explained, "he left his primary commercial real estate holdings and maritime trust in a restricted lockbox, to be handed over to you on your thirtieth birthday—or upon the birth of your first child."
I blinked, stunned. "My father? But... Dad was a university professor. He lived so simply."
"Your father was a professor by choice, Clara," Julian smiled gently, taking my hand. "Before he went into academia, he inherited the Montgomery Maritime Estate—the largest commercial port terminal in the city. He kept it in a private holding fund so you wouldn't be targeted by opportunistic fortune hunters."
Arthur laid out the balance sheets. "Clara, as of three days ago, upon the birth of little Lily, the trust fully unlocked. You are the sole owner of Montgomery Shipping Terminals, valued at approximately two hundred and fifty million dollars."
I gasped, my hand going to my mouth. "Two... two hundred and fifty million?"
"And here is the most interesting part," Julian added, a dangerous smirk touching his lips. "Do you know who Daniel Hale’s firm has been desperately begging for a maritime logistics contract over the past six months?"
I looked at Julian, the realization slowly dawning on me. "Montgomery Maritime?"
"Precisely," Julian said. "Daniel's entire company survival hinges on securing a lease at Terminal 4—which is now 100% owned by you. He has been spending millions of his investors' money pitching to a board that answers directly to your name."
I looked down at the documents, then at my tiny daughter sleeping peacefully beside me. Daniel and Vivian had treated me like a penniless beggar who depended on their charity. They had humiliated me, starved me of affection, and tried to break my spirit while standing on the verge of bankruptcy themselves.

A cold, calm clarity settled over my heart.
"Mr. Vance," I said, my voice steady and resolute. "Send a formal notice to Hale Capital. Inform them that their terminal lease application has been permanently rejected."
