Chapter 7 - An Unlikely Ally

We met Noelle at a quiet, secluded diner on the outskirts of the city. Rachel was understandably guarded, sitting tense across the booth, while I sat beside her, our hands intertwined beneath the table.
Noelle walked in dressed in simple jeans and a sweater, looking completely stripped of her high-society armor. She slid into the booth across from us and immediately placed a flash drive and a stack of printed emails on the table.
"I'm sorry," Noelle said, looking directly at Rachel. "I was a horrible person to you in the park. I was angry, humiliated, and I let Eleanor convince me that you were a liar. But after Evan walked out, I started looking closer at how Eleanor operates. She didn't care about me, either. She was already planning to use my family's real estate connections to bail out one of her failing shell companies."
"What is on the drive, Noelle?" I asked gently.
"It’s the full digital correspondence between Eleanor and the lawyers who manufactured the malpractice lawsuit against your father, Rachel," Noelle explained, pushing the papers forward. "She explicitly states in these emails that the lawsuit was a tool to force 'the Ames girl' out of Philadelphia and to force Dr. Ames to resign from the state medical board."
Rachel reached out, her fingers brushing the printed emails. Tears spilled over her cheeks, but this time, they weren't tears of fear—they were tears of vindication. "She admitted it. It’s right here in writing."
"There's more," Noelle continued, turning a serious gaze to me. "Eleanor knows about the SEC audit. She’s panicked, Evan. She’s using the grandparent visitation lawsuit as a distraction to try and force you back into the company. She thinks if you come back, you can use your personal relationships with the auditors to quiet the investigation. She’s using your children as leverage to save herself."
I felt a profound wave of disgust. Eleanor Vance was willing to drag three innocent five-year-olds through a brutal court battle just to protect her own corporate empire and avoid a prison cell.
"Thank you, Noelle," I said sincerely. "You didn't have to do this."

"Yes, I did," Noelle said, a sad smile touching her lips. "I wanted to marry a man who loved me, Evan. But over the last two weeks, watching how you walked away from millions without a second thought just to be a father to those kids... I realized you never loved me that way. You were just trying to fill a hole that Rachel left behind. I deserve a real love, and Rachel deserves her family back. Don't let Eleanor win."
With Noelle’s evidence and the documents from Dr. Ames’s journal, we didn't just have a defense. We had a weapon.
