Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Confrontation

Inside the grand thirty-fourth-floor boardroom of Graves Tower, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.

Thirty major shareholders, institutional investors, and corporate board members sat around a massive oval marble table. At the head of the table sat Arthur Sterling, wearing a smug, triumphant smile. Sitting to his right was his son, Julian Sterling, who kept checking his gold wristwatch with quiet satisfaction.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Arthur announced, his raspy voice filling the silent room. "It is currently 8:58 AM. As you are all aware, Mr. Nathaniel Graves has failed to appear for this mandatory emergency assembly. Under Section 14 of our corporate governance charter, his absence during a challenge of leadership constitutes an automatic forfeiture of executive proxy rights."

A worried murmur rippled across the board members.

"Mr. Sterling," one senior female board member spoke up, "Nathaniel Graves has run this company successfully for thirty years. We should at least grant a thirty-minute grace period—"

"The bylaws do not allow grace periods for cowardice, Mrs. Gable," Julian Sterling interrupted smoothly, leaning forward. "Nathaniel is old, incompetent, and clearly unable to manage his affairs. I move that we immediately hold the vote to strip his voting shares and appoint my father, Arthur Sterling, as interim Chairman and CEO."

"I second the motion!" another corrupted board member called out.

"Very well," Arthur smiled, raising his wooden gavel. "All those in favor of removing Nathaniel Graves and liquidating the Graves Family Trust—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the boardroom were blown off their hinges by a controlled hydraulic breacher!

Wood splinters flew through the air as the doors slammed onto the floorboards!

The entire board gasped in horror, several members jumping out of their chairs!

A cloud of white dust cleared in the doorway.

Stepping through the ruined entrance was Nathaniel Graves. His suit was dusty, his tie was slightly askew, but his eyes burned with terrifying, majestic fury.

And holding his left hand, walking beside him in her neat navy dress, was me.

"Put the gavel down, Arthur," Nathaniel roared, his voice thundering through the room like a lightning strike. "Before I break it over your lying face!"

Arthur’s face turned an ugly, mottled shade of purple. He dropped the gavel, staring at Nathaniel as if he were seeing a ghost.

"Nathaniel?!" Arthur stammered, his eyes darting frantically to Julian. "How... how did you get here?!"

"You forgot that I own the building, Arthur," Nathaniel said coldly, walking slowly down the center aisle of the boardroom. "And more importantly, I own the helipad on the roof."

Julian stood up, his hand reaching nervously toward his jacket. "Security! Remove these intruders! They are disrupting a legal board meeting!"

"Touch one step, Julian," a sharp voice called out from behind Nathaniel.

Victoria Vance walked into the room, flanked by four uniformed agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Financial Crimes Division.

"Julian Sterling, Arthur Sterling," Lead FBI Agent Miller announced, pulling out two federal arrest warrants. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate fraud, kidnapping, and the attempted assassination of Nathaniel Graves on the Blackwood Bypass thirty minutes ago."

The boardroom erupted into total chaos!
