Chapter 9 - A New Foundation

Six months passed.

The spring sun flooded through the windows of the newly opened Romano Youth Center in downtown Philadelphia—a state-of-the-art facility offering free after-school programs, tutoring, sports, and hot meals for children across three counties.

The center was built entirely using the reclaimed assets of the fallen Carbone empire.

At the grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, hundreds of local families gathered on the lawn. Sarah Vance stood near the podium, looking elegant and radiant as the chief administrator of the foundation.

Beside her, Mason—now taller, healthier, and wearing a crisp new jacket—stood proudly next to me.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I spoke into the microphone, my voice echoing over the crowd. "This center was built on a simple promise: that no child in this city will ever have to walk a dangerous road alone. Protection isn't about fear or power. It is about taking care of those who cannot yet take care of themselves."

The crowd erupted into applause.

As I stepped down from the podium, Sarah walked over, tears of joy in her eyes. "Thank you, Gabriel. You didn't just save Mason that day on Route 17. You saved our whole life."

"You saved yourselves, Sarah," I replied with a warm smile. "Mason had the courage to protect you. I just gave him a little help."

Mason grinned, tugging on my coat sleeve. "Hey, Gabriel! Want to see my new basketball court inside?"

"Lead the way, kid," I chuckled, placing my hand on his shoulder.
