Chapter 7 - The Gathering Storm

The peace of the morning was short-lived.

By noon, my head of intelligence, Marco, arrived at Blackwood Ridge via helicopter, carrying a briefcase filled with intercepted communications and satellite imagery.

We sat in the lodge’s strategic command room—a high-tech bunker situated beneath the wine cellar.

"Moretti has set up his staging base at the abandoned rail yard eight miles south of here," Marco explained, projecting a heat-map onto the primary display screen. "He has gathered forty heavily armed operatives. He knows you have family here, Boss. He's planning a full-scale assault tonight at midnight, using heavy explosives to breach the perimeter gates."

I stood over the map, my eyes dark and focused. "He thinks he's surprising us."

"He believes you are trapped here protecting the children," Marco added. "He doesn't know we’ve tracked his staging area."

"We don't wait for midnight," I declared, my voice dropping into a tone of absolute, lethal authority. "And we don't let him bring a war to this house where my children sleep."

Rachel stepped into the command room quietly, having heard the end of the conversation. She looked at the tactical displays, then at me.

"Victor," she said, her voice steady. "Are you going after him?"

I turned to face her. "I have to end this, Rachel. Antonio Moretti will never stop. As long as he lives, he will hunt you, Leo, and Caleb to force me to surrender. I am going to destroy his operation tonight so that tomorrow, our children can walk down the street without guards."

Rachel walked over to me, looking up into my face. A year ago, she would have fled from a man talking about destroying an enemy. But over the last twenty-four hours, she had seen the truth—she had seen that every ounce of violence I possessed was a shield deployed to protect the people I loved.

She reached up, her hand gently touching my cheek, her fingers lingering against my skin.

"Come back to us," she whispered softly. "We just found you, Victor. Don't leave us again."

I cupped her hand with mine, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against her palm. "I will always come back to you, Rachel. That is a promise sealed in blood."
