Chapter 7 - The Battle of Hangar 4

High-caliber sniper rounds shattered the hangar’s glass skylights in a sudden, deafening symphony of destruction.

The two mercenaries on the catwalk above crumpled instantly, falling through the metal railings to the floor below.

The hangar doors were breached as SWAT tactical vehicles smashed through the perimeter fences, their heavy floodlights blinding Vance’s remaining guards. Flashbang grenades exploded across the tarmac with concussive booms, filling the hangar with blinding white light and thick grey smoke.

"Move! Move! Cover the civilian!" Agent Miller’s voice roared over the loudspeaker system as tactical operatives poured into the facility, engaging Vance’s mercenaries in a fierce exchange of automatic fire.

Under the cover of the smoke, Vance scrambled up the ramp of the idling cargo plane, shouting at his pilot to initiate immediate takeoff.

"Dad! He's getting away!" Lily yelled, pointing through the smoke at the rising ramp of the aircraft.

I looked at a SWAT officer positioned beside our shipping crate. "Hold my daughter!"

"Daddy, no!" Lily cried out.

"I'll be right back, Lily! I promise!" I shouted, handing her into the officer's arms before sprinting through the gunfire toward the moving plane.

The jet's engines roared as the pilot throttled forward, the heavy aircraft beginning its taxi run down the tarmac. The rear ramp was three feet off the ground and rising rapidly.

I dug my heels into the wet concrete, threw my body forward in a desperate leap, and managed to catch the outer edge of the steel ramp with both hands just as the plane accelerated down the runway.
