CHAPTER 4 — WHEN HIS EMPIRE STARTED TO BLEED

Adrian finally showed fear on day four.
Not emotional fear.
Financial fear.
Which, for men like him, is the only language that matters.
He arrived at my father’s office unannounced.
Security didn’t stop him.
They let him walk in.
That alone told me everything.
He was already being allowed to fall.
I watched from a side room as he entered.
He looked different.
Less confident.
Less polished.
Like someone realizing the ground beneath him wasn’t stable anymore.
My father didn’t stand when he entered.
He simply looked up.
“Sit,” he said.
Adrian didn’t.
“I want my wife back,” he said immediately.
My father tilted his head slightly.
“You want control back,” he corrected.
A pause.
“That’s not the same thing.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“She belongs with me.”
My father smiled faintly.
“No,” he said.
“She doesn’t.”
Adrian turned sharply.
“Do you know what this will cost you?” he snapped.
My father leaned back in his chair.
“Yes,” he said calmly.
“Everything you think you have.”
That was the moment Adrian realized something had shifted.
He wasn’t negotiating anymore.
May you like
He was being measured.
And he was losing.
