Chapter 7 - The New Horizon

Six months later.
Spring had returned to New England, turning the grounds of Blackwood Sanctuary into a vibrant tapestry of green grass, blooming purple lilacs, and white cherry blossoms.
The massive estate was no longer a silent fortress of grief.
The high stone walls were covered in blooming vines, and the grand library windows were thrown open to let in the sweet salt breeze from the ocean.
Near the cliffside gazebo overlooking the Atlantic, a small, intimate gathering of twenty people was taking place.
Claire was there, laughing cheerfully as Caleb attempted to balance a delicate porcelain teacup on his massive knee. Several staff members from the Newburyport clinic were enjoying champagne and fresh pastries near the rose garden.
In the center of the gazebo stood Dominic and Mara.
Mara wore an elegant, floor-length gown of soft sage green silk, her dark hair styled in a loose, romantic braid decorated with tiny white flowers. She looked radiant, happy, and deeply loved.
Dominic stood beside her in a tailored charcoal suit, his dark eyes fixed entirely on her face, his hand holding hers with absolute, unyielding devotion.
Beside them sat Rook.
The massive Cane Corso wore a custom leather harness adorned with a single white rose pinned to his lapel. His cloudy eyes turned toward the sea, his ears picking up the gentle sound of the waves crashing against the rocks below, his tail giving slow, happy thuds against the gazebo floor.
"We are gathered here today," the local magistrate spoke warmly, "not to forget the past, but to celebrate a future built on courage, healing, and an unshakeable bond."
Dominic reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. Inside was a magnificent platinum ring set with an emerald cut diamond surrounded by tiny sapphire accents—a ring he had custom-designed to match the color of the dress Mara had worn the night they met.
He took her hand, sliding the ring onto her finger.
"Mara," Dominic said, his deep voice thick with profound, genuine emotion. "Six months ago, I was a man living in total darkness, surrounded by walls I built to keep the world away. You walked into my life and showed me that even when our sight is taken, love will always find a way to guide us home."
Mara felt tears of pure joy rise in her eyes, glistening like diamonds in the afternoon sunlight.
"Dominic," Mara whispered back, her voice filled with endless faith. "You proved that the strongest heart isn't one that never breaks... but one that chooses to love again after the storm."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife!" the magistrate declared with a warm smile.
Dominic didn't hesitate. He wrapped his strong arms around Mara’s waist, pulling her close against him, and kissed her with a deep, passionate intensity that made the small crowd break into joyful applause.

Rook let out a loud, happy bark, pushing his massive head right between them, demanding his share of the celebration.
Dominic and Mara both laughed against each other's lips, leaning down together to wrap their arms around the faithful dog who had brought them together.
