Chapter 6 - The Mole in the Shadows

Before Marco could draw the weapon hidden beneath his jacket, Enzo moved with lightning speed. He grabbed Marco’s wrist, twisting it sharply until the underboss cried out in pain, dropping his nickel-plated revolver to the floorboards. Angelo instantly drew his own weapon, training it directly on Marco’s head.

"Search his coat," Enzo ordered.

Angelo stepped forward, reaching inside Marco's jacket and pulling out an encrypted satellite phone. He flipped it open and pressed the recent calls button.

"It's a direct line to Victor Moretti," Angelo reported, looking at Enzo with disgust. "The last call was placed twenty minutes ago."

Marco sank to his knees, his face pale and sweating. "Enzo... please! Moretti threatened my family! He said he’d kill my son if I didn't give him the girl’s location!"

Enzo stood over the traitor, his face devoid of mercy. "You offered a defenseless mother and her seven-year-old child to a monster to save your own skin. My father trusted you, Marco. But you forgot the first rule of this family: we never sacrifice innocents."

"Enzo, mercy—" Marco begged, tears streaming down his face.

"Take him to the basement," Enzo instructed Angelo coldly. "Lock him up until Ray returns with the ledger. Then he answers for his treason before the council."

An hour later, Ray returned to the estate carrying a heavy steel box. Inside lay the master ledger—hundreds of pages detailing every illegal operation, bribed official, and violent crime committed by Victor Moretti over the past three decades.

"We have everything we need, Boss," Ray said, setting the ledger on the desk. "This puts Moretti behind bars for three life sentences."

"No," Enzo said, closing his hand into a tight fist. "The law is too slow, and men like Victor buy their way out of prison cells. He hurt Claire. He threatened Sadie. This ends on my terms."
