Chapter 8 - The Abduction

The peace was shattered three nights later by an unexpected violent thunderstorm.
Lightning cracked across the night sky, throwing violent flashes of light against the estate windows. Wind howled through the trees, tearing down power lines across the sector and plunging the compound into temporary darkness before the backup generators kicked in.
Inside the security room, two guards were suddenly struck down by silenced rifle fire from the perimeter fence.
Victor Moretti, desperate and facing total ruin, had assembled his remaining twenty elite mercenaries for a suicidal final assault. Knowing he couldn't defeat Enzo in open warfare, he aimed to strike at the one thing Enzo had grown to love.
Alarm sirens blared across the estate.
Enzo burst out of his study with his weapon drawn. "Ray! Report!"
"They breached the eastern wall!" Ray shouted over the sound of gunfire echoing outside. "They cut the main power lines!"
Enzo’s heart seized. "Claire! Sadie!"
He sprinted up the grand staircase toward the bedrooms. He kicked open the door to Claire's room. She was on the floor, having been knocked unconscious by a heavy blow to her head.
The balcony doors were shattered, swinging wildly in the wind.
"Claire!" Enzo dropped to his knees, lifting her into his arms.
She opened her eyes weakly, gasping for air. "Enzo... they... they took Sadie! A man in a tactical mask... he grabbed her through the balcony!"
Enzo felt his blood turn into pure fire. He cradled Claire’s face in his hands, his eyes burning with terrifying fury.
"Listen to me," Enzo rasped, his voice shaking with absolute conviction. "I am going to bring our daughter back. Do you hear me? I swear on my father’s grave, no one touches that child and lives."

Enzo stood up, pulling his phone and dialing his entire captain network.
"All units," Enzo commanded into the receiver. "Full mobilization. We are going to Pier 19."
