Chapter 6 - The Fall of an Empire
The settlement took six months to finalize, but when the dust cleared, Gabriel Reeves was a very diminished man.
He lost the Manhattan estate, control of Reeves Global, and a vast majority of his liquid assets, which were transferred directly into a newly formed foundation managed entirely by Amelia. He was forced out of his executive position in disgrace, his high-society friends quickly closing ranks and locking him out of their circles once the salacious details of his double life leaked to the financial press.
Amelia watched the news report from the sunlit kitchen of the estate—the very kitchen where Olivia had first tried to warn her.
The house felt lighter now. The heavy, oppressive cedar and expensive perfume scents were gone, replaced by fresh flowers, bright sunlight, and absolute peace.
Olivia walked in carrying a tray of tea, setting it down with a soft smile.
"Mr. Vance called," Olivia said gently. "The final papers have been signed and countersigned. Everything is transferred."
Amelia poured a cup of tea, her hand steady, her expression serene. She looked vastly different from the woman who had worn the gray uniform months ago. She was stronger, sharper, and completely unbound.
