Chapter 8 - A NEW BEGINNING

Six months later.

Spring had arrived in Chicago. The gardens of the Moretti estate were blooming with brilliant red roses, white lilies, and lush green grass.

The heavy iron gates, once a symbol of a dark mafia fortress, were now left open during the daytime, letting the bright afternoon sun stream across the paved driveway.

In the rear courtyard, a small, elegant gathering was taking place.

There were no mob bosses or dark suits present. Instead, the patio was filled with laughter, fresh fruit platters, and the sounds of classical piano playing soft melodies through outdoor speakers.

Bella sat on a white wrought-iron bench, wearing a stunning butter-yellow sundress. Her hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders, and her eyes were bright, full of peace and happiness.

Beside her, leaning against the bench, was fourteen-month-old Leo.

He was walking now. Taking wobbly, triumphant steps across the grass, holding a small plush bear in his hands.

Silana walked out from the house, wearing a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers. He walked over to Bella, handing her a glass of chilled iced tea, then sat beside her, wrapping his arm around her waist.

"He's getting faster," Silana remarked with a smile, watching Leo attempt to chase a butterfly across the lawn.

"He takes after his father," Bella said softly, turning her head to look at Silana.

Silana froze slightly, looking into her eyes. "Father?"

Bella reached into her small purse and pulled out a sleek blue velvet box. She slid it into Silana's large palm.

Silana opened the box.

Inside sat a beautiful, custom-engraved silver signet ring—similar to the one Silana wore on his pinky, but inside the band were carved the words: To our shield, our love, our father.

"Leo took his first step yesterday," Bella whispered, her eyes shining with tears of joy. "And when he walked, he didn't say 'Bubba' anymore. He pointed at your picture on the desk and said 'Dada'."

Silana felt a lump form in his throat. The terrifying man who had ruled the Chicago underworld felt tears brim in his eyes—not tears of grief or rage, but tears of pure, overwhelming gratitude.

He pulled the ring from the box and slipped it onto his finger.

"Bella," Silana said, his voice thick with emotion. "I want to give you and Leo everything. Not just safety... but a real life. A legitimate life."

He pulled a folded document from his pocket and handed it to her.

Bella opened it. It was a legal deed for the Moretti Enterprise, showing that eighty percent of his business assets had been fully transitioned into legitimate logistics, real estate, and charitable foundations.

"I am stepping down from the underworld," Silana promised, holding her hands in his. "Dominic is taking over the security firm. I am free, Bella. Free to be the husband you deserve, and the father Leo needs."

Bella threw her arms around his neck, kissing him deeply under the golden spring sunlight.

Leo ran over, grabbing both of their knees, babbling happily, wanting to be included in the hug. Silana reached down, scooping his son into his arms, holding both Bella and Leo close to his heart.
