Chapter 4 - The Country Club Ambush

The Charlotte Country Club was a sanctuary of old money, rolling green lawns, and velvet rope privilege. On a sunlit Friday afternoon, the elite of North Carolina society sat on the outdoor veranda sipping mimosas and discussing polo matches.

At 1300 hours, three black military SUVs pulled up the winding driveway, parked directly in front of the main clubhouse entrance, and blocked the valet lane.

I stepped out of the middle vehicle, accompanied by two armed CID agents in sharp civilian suits and Marcus Vance carrying a thick leather briefcase. I wore my full Army Class-A dress uniform, complete with white gloves and polished jump boots. Every eye on the patio turned toward us as our boots clicked rhythmically against the stone pavement.

Margaret Prescott was sitting at a centerpiece table surrounded by five prominent society women, including the mayor’s wife. She was laughing, holding a crystal glass of champagne.

Her laughter died instantly when she saw me approaching.

"Victoria?" Margaret said, her voice dropping as her friends looked on in confusion. "What is the meaning of this spectacle? This is a private club. Security!"

"Don't bother, Margaret," I said, stepping right up to her table. My voice resonated across the quieted patio, forcing every wealthy patron to turn and listen. "Your private security guards are currently outside discussing federal obstruction of justice charges with my agents."

Margaret stood up slowly, her face red with embarrassment. "You have lost your mind. Get off these grounds before I have you arrested for harassment!"

"I'm not here to harass you, Margaret," I said loudly and clearly, pulling a legal document from Marcus's briefcase. "I'm here to serve you."

Marcus stepped forward and handed the crisp white papers directly to Margaret. She instinctively caught them, her hands trembling.

"You, your son Ethan, and your son Brandon are being officially served with a federal civil lawsuit under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act," I announced, my voice cutting through the humid air like a blade. "The charges include human trafficking, unlawful imprisonment, forced administration of illegal narcotics, and financial fraud."

A collective gasp echoed across the patio. Margaret's friends pulled their chairs back, moving away from her as if she were contagious.

"You lies!" Margaret shrieked, dropping the papers onto the linen tablecloth. "This is a absurd smear campaign! My family built this city!"

May you like

"Your family built a criminal enterprise on the backs of exploited human beings," I replied coldly, leaning in so only she could hear my next words. "And you made the fatal mistake of putting your hands on my child. Enjoy your champagne, Margaret. It’s the last glass of expensive wine you will drink as a free woman."

I turned on my heel and marched back toward the waiting SUVs. Behind us, the patio erupted into chaotic shouting, whispering, and the frantic tapping of cell phone screens as Charlotte's high society began to devour one of its own.
