Chapter 4 - The Snake in the Family Tree

The silence in the master suite was broken by a sudden, heavy knock at the door.
Dr. Harrison stepped back into the room. His face was ghostly pale, his hands trembling as he held a printed white document bearing the official seal of the state forensic laboratory.
Alexander turned instantly. "The results, Harrison."
Dr. Harrison swallowed hard, looking at Hannah with an expression of profound, tearful awe. "Alexander... it is a 99.999% positive maternal match. Miss Hannah Miller... is legally, biologically, and indisputably Rosalie Sterling. She is Noah’s mother."
Alexander closed his eyes, a single heavy tear carving a path down his sharp cheek. The cold, unyielding wall he had built around his heart for five years shattered into a million pieces. He dropped to his knees in front of Hannah, reaching out and pulling both her and Noah into a fierce, desperate embrace, clutching them against his chest as if the world might tear them away again if he let go.
"Rosalie..." Alexander wept against her neck, his body shaking with uncharacteristic emotion. "My God... Rosalie... I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry I didn't find you..."
Hannah felt a strange, electric warmth surge through her heart as Alexander held her. Though her conscious memory was still broken, her body remembered his scent, his warmth, and the safety of his arms.
"Alexander..." Hannah whispered, her hand moving tentatively to rest against the back of his neck. "Who... who did this to us?"
"I did."
A cold, mocking voice echoed from the open doorway of the suite.
Lady Victoria Sterling stood in the entrance, flanked by her private attorney and three heavy-set men dressed in non-descript black suits. In her right hand, Victoria held a small, silver remote control.
"Mother?" Alexander stood up slowly, stepping in front of Hannah and Noah, his eyes narrowing into slits of pure, lethal anger. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about protecting the Sterling bloodline from a dirt-poor orphan girl!" Victoria sneered, her face twisting into a grotesque mask of aristocratic hatred. "Five years ago, you defied me, Alexander! You married this worthless nobody, Rosalie, and made her the legal owner of fifty percent of the Sterling Trust!"
"You orchestrated the plane crash," Alexander realized, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper.
"Of course I did!" Victoria laughed, a high, chilling sound. "I paid the pilot to sabotage the fuel lines. But the foolish girl survived, washed ashore, and was picked up by a local fishing boat. When my scouts found her in that Portland hospital with amnesia, I saw an opportunity."
Victoria stepped into the room, her silver cane tapping against the wood floor. "I had the doctor tell her the child died. I brought the newborn baby here to be raised as the Sterling heir, while I kept Rosalie monitored under fake identities, making sure she lived in poverty. And three months ago, when my asset management firm faced an audit... I brought her here as a maid so I could keep her under my direct control!"

"You're a monster," Alexander spat, his fists clenching so hard his knuckles turned white. "You stole my wife and my son's mother for five years!"
"I am a guardian of an empire!" Victoria snapped back, holding up the small silver remote control. "And right now, Alexander, you are going to sign the entire Sterling estate over to my private foundation. Because if you don't... the fire suppression system in this wing, which I have modified with concentrated carbon monoxide, will activate in five seconds."
