Chapter 5 - The Magic Kingdom

The rest of that day was a blur of bright colors, laughter, and a profound sense of vindication. Armed with the VIP tour passes I had purchased, Daisy didn't have to wait in a single line. We were escorted through secret back entrances of the rides by a delightful Disney guide named Liam.
Daisy rode Space Mountain three times in a row, her hands thrown high in the air, her screams of terror replaced by pure, unbridled joy. We ate giant turkey legs, watched the character parades from a private viewing area, and met every single Disney princess in Fantasyland. Cinderella spent an extra five minutes with Daisy, complimenting her puppy pajamas which she had insisted on wearing under her jacket, making Daisy feel like the most important little girl in the world.
But as a lawyer, I knew the clock was ticking. Every smile Daisy gave me was a victory, but back at the hotel, the vipers were undoubtedly plotting their next move.
During a brief afternoon break while Daisy was getting her face painted like a fairy, I checked my phone. I had three missed calls from Julian and a barrage of furious text messages from Sarah.
“You are overstepping your boundaries, Grant! You have brainwashed Daisy against us. We are going to court first thing Monday morning to file a restraining order against you.”
I smiled to myself and forwarded the texts directly to my personal email server, adding them to the growing digital file labeled Sterling Custody Dispute.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Judge Marcus Vance.
"Grant," Marcus said without greeting. "I just received an electronic filing from a local firm here in the city. A high-end family law outfit retained by your son's wife. They are seeking an emergency injunction ordering you to return the child immediately, alleging international or interstate parental abduction."
I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose. Sarah wasn't stupid. She had called her lawyers back home to strike first, trying to paint me as the villain who snatched Daisy from her home.
"Did they mention the child was left alone in the house, Marcus?" I asked calmly.
"Of course not," Marcus replied. "They claim the child was under the supervision of a trusted neighbor and that you used your spare key to enter the premises without authorization and remove the minor without parental consent. If I don't sign this injunction, they are threatening to go to the federal level under the Parental Kidnapping Prevention Act."
"I have the evidence, Marcus. I have a digital recording of the child alone, text messages from Sarah admitting she lied to the neighbor, and bank records proving premeditated abandonment. I'm emailing you the full evidentiary packet right now."
May you like
"Send it immediately," Marcus said, his tone grim. "If the evidence matches what you claim, I won't just deny their injunction. I will issue an emergency ex-parte order granting you temporary legal and physical custody of Daisy pending a full hearing. But Grant... you need to serve Julian and Sarah with the papers personally while they are still in Florida to prevent them from fleeing to another jurisdiction."
"Don't worry," I said, looking over at Daisy, who was proudly showing off her new sparkling face paint. "I know exactly where they are staying."
