Chapter 9 - The Rebirth of Sterling Global

Six months later.

The brand launch party for my expanded international branding agency, Sterling Global Designs, was held at the top-floor observatory of the city’s newest skyscraper.

Over four hundred elite corporate clients, international fashion designers, and media representatives filled the glass venue.

My firm had just signed a multi-million dollar contract with three major European luxury brands, solidifying my position as one of the most sought-after creative directors in the country.

I stood near the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the breathtaking city lights. I was wearing an exquisite, custom-tailored emerald green silk gown that accentuated every curve of my body with regal elegance.

"Looking at your empire?" a soft voice whispered in my ear.

I turned around to see Alexander, looking impossibly handsome in a sharp charcoal tux, holding two glasses of champagne.

"Looking at our future," I smiled, taking a glass from him.

"You built this all on your own, Olivia," Alexander said proudly, taking a sip of champagne. "I just provided the balcony."

"You gave me the courage to stand up, Alexander," I corrected him gently, placing my hand against his chest. "You saw me when I was invisible to everyone else."

"You were never invisible, my love," Alexander whispered softly, leaning down to press a gentle, loving kiss to my lips as the crowd around us cheered and raised their glasses in a toast to my company's success.

Later that evening, my assistant handed me a physical letter that had arrived in the mail.

I opened it. It was from Chloe.

Olivia,

I don't expect you to reply to this, and I know I don't deserve your forgiveness. I am currently working double shifts at a diner to pay off my court fines, and I’m taking night classes in accounting.

Mom and I don't talk much anymore. She still blames everyone else for what happened, but for the first time in my life, I'm trying to take responsibility for myself.

I saw your magazine cover yesterday. You look beautiful, Liv. You always were the strong one. I'm sorry I was too blind to see it.

May you like

Chloe

I folded the letter carefully and placed it in my purse. I felt a quiet peace settle in my chest. Chloe had a long, painful road ahead of her, but for the first time, she was walking it on her own feet.
