Chapter 3 - The Collapse of the Groom

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos.
Guests stood up from their chairs, whispering, grabbing their coats, and pulling out their phones to record the wreckage. Victoria backed away from Julian as if he were carrying a plague, her designer wedding gown rustling frantically against the chairs.
"Arthur—listen to me—it's a misunderstanding!" Julian stammered, holding up the papers like a shield against a firing squad. Sweat was pouring down his temples, ruining his expensive haircut. "The boy—he’s lying! His mother put him up to this! It’s a bitter divorce stunt!"
Arthur Sterling didn't even look at Julian. He stopped in front of Noah, looked down at the ten-year-old boy, and gave him a curt, respectful nod. Then, Arthur turned his gaze to Evelyn.
"Evelyn," Arthur said softly, his voice carrying genuine sorrow. "I am deeply, profoundly sorry. We suspected a leak in the Texas division, but we never imagined..." He trailed off, shaking his head.
"You didn't imagine my husband was a thief?" Evelyn said, her voice steady, her chin held high. "He’s been stealing from your firm’s client acquisition fund for two years, Arthur. That’s how he paid for this wedding. That’s how he bought Victoria’s ring. He built this entire fake life on stolen foundations."
Victoria let out a sharp, breathless gasp. She turned to Julian, her eyes wide with betrayal. "You said your separation settlement covered all of this! You said you were liquidating your personal assets!"
"Victoria, baby, please, don't listen to them—" Julian reached out for her, but she slapped his hand away so hard the sound echoed across the hall.
"Don't touch me," Victoria hissed, her voice trembling with fury. "You used me as a smoke screen. You financial parasite!"
Before Julian could answer, the heavy double doors of the country club ballroom swung open with a loud crash.
Two men in dark suits, displaying federal badges, strode purposefully into the room.

"Julian Vance?" the lead agent called out, his voice cutting through the shouting and murmurs of the crowd.
Julian froze, the manila folders slipping from his trembling fingers, scattering across the white rose petals decorating the floor.
