Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Massacre

At 2:00 PM sharp, I sat at the head of the mahogany conference table on the 40th floor of the Vance Tower. Clad in a tailored navy suit, my hair pulled back into a sleek bun, I looked around the room at the seven board members—men who had comfortably taken my father’s legacy and allowed David to pose as the mastermind behind our recent growth.

The double doors opened, and David burst into the room. He looked disheveled, his tie loosened, his eyes bloodshot with rage and panic.

“Eleanor!” he roared, ignoring the board members. “What the hell is this madness?! You froze my accounts! You had the police throw my parents onto the street! Have you completely lost your mind?!”

“Sit down, David,” I said calmly, resting my hands on the table.

“I will not sit down! You are my wife! You don't have the legal right to—”

“Mr. Hayes,” interrupted Arthur Vance Sr.’s old friend and chief legal counsel, Marcus Thorne, rising from his seat. “You will sit down and keep your voice quiet, or security will remove you from this building permanently.”

David blinked, stunned by the cold hostility from men who had golfed with him just last weekend. He sank into a chair at the far end of the table, his chest heaving.

“Let us begin,” I said, opening a thick leather binder in front of me. “Over the past three years, Mr. Hayes has presented himself as the primary architect of Vance Logistics’ European expansion. However, a forensic audit conducted by Deloitte over the last ninety days reveals a somewhat different story.”

David’s face drained of color. “Audit? What audit?”

“An audit I personally requested,” I replied smoothly. “It appears Mr. Hayes has siphoned approximately $4.2 million from our offshore logistics accounts into shell corporations registered in the Cayman Islands under the name 'C&D Holding Group'. C standing for Chloe, I presume?”

A collective gasp echoed across the boardroom.

“That’s... that’s a lie! It was an investment fund for corporate development!” David stammered, his confidence completely shattering.

“It was a slush fund used to purchase a luxury penthouse in Soho, two sports cars, and first-class travel tickets to Paris for you and Ms. Chloe Vance,” I corrected, sliding copies of the bank statements across the table to each board member. “Furthermore, because these funds were moved using forged trustee signatures—specifically, my father’s digitized seal—this constitutes grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, and wire fraud.”

Marcus Thorne looked at David with utter disdain. “David, as of this moment, by unanimous vote of the majority shareholder, your employment with Vance Logistics is terminated immediately for cause. You are to surrender your building access pass, your company phone, and your vehicle keys.”

“You can’t fire me!” David screamed, slamming his fists on the table. “I built this company!”

“My father built this company,” I said, standing up and looking down at him with ruthless clarity. “You were merely an employee who forgot his place. And now, David, you have thirty minutes to clear your personal belongings from your desk before the police arrive to execute a warrant for your arrest.”
