Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 10: THE BENNETT ESTATE

One year later.
The afternoon sun cast a warm golden glow over the rolling green gardens of the Bennett family estate in Lake Forest.
Children's laughter echoed across the lawn.
One-year-old Maya, wearing a little blue summer dress and matching shoes, was taking her first confident steps across the grass, holding onto Gabriel’s large hands while he walked beside her, patient and attentive.
A few yards away, my three brothers were standing by the outdoor grill, laughing, debating business investments, and taking turns trying to feed Maya small pieces of fruit.
Ryan Miller and Vanessa Lopez were currently serving twenty-five-year federal prison sentences with no possibility of parole. Their names had become nothing more than distant memories, erased entirely from our lives.
I sat on the wooden porch, wearing a sun dress, sipping iced tea, watching my daughter play with the man who had brought us through the darkest night of our lives.
Gabriel guided Maya over to the porch. He lifted her gently into his arms, sitting beside me on the wooden bench. Maya giggled, resting her head against Gabriel’s shoulder as she reached for his silver watch.
"She loves you more than her uncles," I teased softly, resting my head against Gabriel’s arm.
"That's because her uncles give her too much ice cream," Gabriel smiled, placing his arm around my shoulders, drawing me close.
Over the past year, Gabriel had officially retired from military intelligence, taking over as Chief of Global Security for Ethan’s technology corporation. But more importantly, he had become the rock of our home—a quiet, strong presence who had healed every scar left by the past.
Gabriel turned his head, looking down into my eyes with deep, unshakeable devotion.
"I spent five years living in the dark, Sophia," Gabriel said softly, his fingers gently stroking my hair. "I thought my life ended in that jungle. But when I broke through that door and saw you... I realized my life was just beginning."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a brilliant diamond ring that shimmered under the afternoon sun.
"Sophia Bennett," Gabriel said, his voice filled with emotion. "Will you do me the honor of letting me protect you and Maya for the rest of my life?"
Tears of pure happiness filled my eyes as I looked at the ring, then at my daughter smiling in his arms, and finally at the noble man who had saved us both.
"Yes, Gabriel," I whispered, holding out my hand. "A thousand times, yes."
May you like
Gabriel slipped the ring onto my finger, pulling me into a tender, loving kiss as my three brothers cheered loudly from the lawn below.
The shadows of the past were gone forever, replaced by the warmth of family, the promise of love, and a bright, beautiful future rising like the morning sun over Lake Michigan.
