Chapter 10 - A Future Written in Light

One year later.

The summer sun beamed brightly over the farm in Leipers Fork. The air was filled with the sweet scent of lavender, fresh-cut cedar, and warm honey.

A large white tent had been erected near the pond, filled with round tables decorated with wildflowers, wooden centerpieces, and glowing fairy lights. Dozens of friends, family, legal team members, and community supporters filled the lawn, dressed in festive attire.

Inside the farmhouse, I stood before the full-length mirror in my dressing room.

I wore a simple, breathtaking ivory lace gown with a flowing train. My dark hair was styled in soft waves, pinned back with silver floral hair clips. I looked healthy, radiant, and entirely free.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Clara Mercer stepped inside, holding a bouquet of white roses and yellow freesia.

"You look absolute stunning, Elena," Clara said, tears glistening in her eyes. "Are you ready?"

"I’ve been ready for three years, Clara," I smiled, taking the bouquet.

Outside, the string quartet began playing a gentle, acoustic rendition of "Can't Help Falling in Love."

The guests stood up as four-year-old Lily walked down the wooden aisle, wearing a tiny white dress, proudly tossing flower petals from her basket.

Then, I stepped onto the aisle, walking toward the wooden gazebo.

Standing at the altar was Wyatt. He looked handsome in a tailored charcoal suit, his broad shoulders squared, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity of love that made my breath catch in my throat. Beside him stood Agent Brody as his best man, grinning broadly.

As I reached the gazebo steps, Wyatt stepped down to take my hand. His touch was warm, solid, and safe—a harbor in every storm.

The minister began the ceremony:

"We are gathered here today to celebrate a union born not from ease, but from courage. A love that stood as a shield in the darkest hour, and blossomed into a sanctuary of peace, trust, and everlasting joy."

When it came time for the vows, Wyatt looked directly into my eyes, holding both of my hands tightly in his.

"Elena," Wyatt said, his voice clear and resonant. "I promise to honor you, to stand between you and any shadow the world tries to throw your way. I promise to build a life for us filled with laughter, dignity, and warmth. You are my home, my heart, and my greatest treasure."

I wiped a tear from my cheek, smiling up at him.

"Wyatt," I spoke, my voice steady and rich with love. "You showed me what true strength looks like. You taught me that love doesn't hurt, control, or intimidate—love protects, heals, and builds up. I give you my heart, my life, and my forever."

"By the power vested in me," the minister announced, a wide smile on his face, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Wyatt, you may kiss your bride!"

Wyatt pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off my feet as he kissed me deeply, passionately, under the clear summer sky.

The crowd erupted into wild cheers and applause.

Lily ran up the gazebo steps, wrapping her arms around both of our legs. Wyatt reached down, scooping her up into his arm while holding me close with the other.

As the sun began its slow descent over the Tennessee hills, painting the sky in a breathtaking masterpiece of gold, violet, and soft pink, I looked at my husband, looked at my thriving daughter, and looked out at the peaceful life we had built together.

The dark nightmare was over. The shadows were gone forever.

We were finally, beautifully, home.
