Chapter 6 - The Unraveling
Emma kept her voice steady, forcing herself not to look at the dark corners of the room where she knew his posture was meant to intimidate her. "You planned this before we even got married."
"Of course I did!" Ethan snapped, slamming his glass down on the mahogany table, shattering the base. "You were getting too independent! You started taking contracts without asking my permission! You thought you were my equal, Emma! A wife is a partner, but in my world, there is only one leader. I owned you the moment you walked down that aisle."
"I never belonged to you," Emma said clearly.
Ethan's face contorted in rage. He lunged forward, grabbing her by the collar of her coat. "You listen to me, you pathetic little—"
BOOM.
The front door was kicked off its hinges. Flashlights blinded the room as armed officers poured in, led by Detective Miller.
"Police! Hands where we can see them! Step away from the woman!"
Ethan froze, his hand still clutched on her collar. The color drained from his face as he realized the red laser dots dancing across his chest.
Victoria walked in behind the officers, holding a tablet displaying a live recording stream. "Ethan Vance, you are under arrest for extortion, grand larceny, evidence tampering, and felony assault. Everything you just said was broadcast directly to the district attorney and your primary investors."

As the handcuffs clicked around Ethan’s wrists, he screamed at Emma, his voice shrill and unhinged. "You tricked me! You ruined me!"
Emma stood tall, watching officers haul him toward the cruiser. "You ruined yourself the moment you thought power gave you the right to break people."
