Chapter 7 - The New Horizon

Six months later.

The Texas sun shone brightly over the grand opening of the Vance Innovation Hub, a state-of-the-art medical research facility in downtown Dallas funded entirely by my family foundation.

I stood on the stage in a stunning emerald-green dress, cutting the red ribbon in front of hundreds of press reporters, city officials, and leading medical professionals. I was no longer the quiet wife sitting in the background. I was the CEO of Vance Capital, running one of the most successful philanthropic and investment firms in the southwest.

"Mrs. Vance!" a reporter called out from the crowd. "How does it feel to transition from a private life to leading one of the largest medical ventures in Texas?"

"It feels like coming home to who I was always meant to be," I answered into the microphone, my voice firm and confident.

After the press conference, as guests mingled over champagne and appetizers, a man approached me holding two glasses.

He was tall, with dark silver-streaked hair, sharp blue eyes, and a warm, genuine smile. His name was Dr. Julian Rhys—the brilliant, ethical chief of cardiology who had been brought in to replace Jack’s department at St. Jude. Unlike Jack, Julian was a man of quiet integrity, respected globally for his groundbreaking work in pediatric heart surgery.

"Congratulations, Megan," Julian said, handing me a glass of champagne. "The center is magnificent. Your father would have been immensely proud."

"Thank you, Julian," I smiled, clinking my glass against his. "Your team’s research lab on the third floor is officially ready. You can move your equipment in on Monday."

Julian looked at me, his eyes holding a depth of respect I had never experienced in my past marriage. "You know, Megan, when I first took this job, people told me you were ruthless."

I raised an eyebrow playfully. "And what do you think now?"

"I think you’re a woman who knows her worth," Julian said softly. "And a woman who refuses to let anyone take advantage of her again. It's... inspiring."

A warm blush touched my cheeks. For the first time in years, my heart fluttered—not out of anxiety or fear, but out of genuine hope.
