Chapter 5 - The Fall of Mitchell Medical

With Jason’s arrest for domestic assault and the subsequent release of the recording to the District Attorney, the case against him transformed from a civil divorce dispute into a high-profile criminal prosecution.

The Mitchell Medical board of directors acted swiftly. Within forty-eight hours, Jason was stripped of his title as CEO, and his voting shares were suspended. The board, desperate to save the company from complete annihilation, reached out to Daniel’s office, begging for a meeting.

The meeting took place in the grand boardroom of Mitchell Medical—a room I hadn't stepped into since the day of my "accident."

"Mrs. Mitchell," the interim chairman, an older, distinguished man named Arthur Pendelton, said, his voice trembling slightly. "We are deeply, deeply sorry for the horrors you suffered. The board was completely kept in the dark by Jason’s inner circle. We had no idea about the safety bypasses or the falsified FDA reports."

"You had an obligation to know, Arthur," I said, sitting at the head of the long glass table. "You enjoyed the high stock prices and the massive dividends while turning a blind eye to the rumors. You knew Marcus Brooks died under suspicious circumstances, and you let Jason buy his family’s silence."

Daniel sat next to me, his face a mask of stern justice. "The only way Mitchell Medical survives the upcoming federal investigation is if there is a complete restructuring. We are demanding the immediate forfeiture of all of Jason Mitchell's shares, to be transferred directly to Iris Mitchell."

Arthur swallowed hard, looking at the other board members. "That would give Mrs. Mitchell a controlling interest of fifty-two percent. She would effectively own the company."

"She founded the company," Daniel countered. "And she is the only person who can patch the Aegis-5 software before the decay code triggers a catastrophic failure in hospitals across the country. If you don't agree to these terms, we go public with the software flaw, and Mitchell Medical will be bankrupt by the end of the week."

The board members whispered frantically among themselves. The choice was simple: hand over the keys to the woman they had cast aside, or watch their entire fortunes turn to ash.

Ten minutes later, Arthur signed the preliminary agreement.

I walked out of the building that afternoon not as the discarded, broken ex-wife, but as the majority shareholder and incoming CEO of Mitchell Medical Technologies.

As we walked to the car, Daniel looked at me, a genuine smile breaking through his usual professional demeanor. "We did it, Iris. We actually did it."

"Not yet," I said, looking up at the towering glass skyscraper. "We still have to face him in court. And I want to make sure he never, ever gets out."
