Chapter 6 - The War for Whitmore

Inside the speeding SUV, Emily clung to Daniel’s arm, her chest heaving, tears streaming down her pale face.

"They tried to kill us," she sobbed, terror washing over her in overwhelming waves. "Richard Whitmore tried to kill us!"

Daniel held her close, his arms strong, protective, and unyielding. "He knows, Emily. Richard knows that if Linda Carter’s daughter ever emerged with David’s original birth certificate and Sarah’s letters, his entire claim to the Whitmore fortune and empire would be instantly legally void."

"I don't care about the money!" Emily cried. "I just want my mother to live! I want to be safe!"

"You will be safe," Daniel swore, looking out the window at the glittering skyline of Chicago. "Marcus, take us to the private airstrip. We are securing the documents in my vault, and I am deploying my private security force to guard Northwestern Memorial Hospital."

Within two hours, Daniel’s personal security team—a group of former elite military operatives—had completely locked down the fifth floor of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Four armed guards stood outside Linda Carter’s ICU room, while private medical specialists brought in by Daniel took over her primary care.

By 8:00 AM, Daniel stood in the glass-walled penthouse suite of the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, surrounded by four top corporate attorneys and a team of forensic investigators.

The steel box sat open on the mahogany table.

"Mr. Whitmore," the lead attorney, Victoria Vance, said gravely, looking up from the forensic analysis of Sarah’s letters and the birth certificate. "These documents are 100% authentic. The DNA match between Ms. Carter and your father David can be confirmed within twenty-four hours using hair samples from your father's preserved personal effects."

"And what does this mean legally?" Daniel asked, leaning over the table, his hands resting on the smooth wood.

Victoria Vance looked at Emily, who sat on the sofa wrapped in a fleece blanket, holding a warm cup of tea.

"It means," Victoria said clearly, "that under the original trust terms established by your grandfather Arthur Whitmore, David Whitmore was the sole primary beneficiary of fifty-one percent of Whitmore Infrastructure. Because David was murdered before he could marry, his share was illegally seized by Richard Whitmore under the assumption that David had no heirs."

Victoria paused, pointing to the birth certificate.

"Emily Rose Whitmore is the rightful legal owner of fifty-one percent of Whitmore Infrastructure Group—a conglomerate valued at twelve billion dollars. Richard Whitmore’s entire board presidency is a fraud. He has been stealing corporate dividends for thirty years."

Emily stared at the lawyer, her mind unable to process the unfathomable number. "Twelve... billion dollars?"

"Yes, Ms. Whitmore," Victoria smiled gently. "You are not just a nurse anymore. You are the controlling shareholder of one of the largest infrastructure corporations in North America."

Daniel turned to look at Emily, a grim, triumphant smile breaking across his tired face. "Richard spent thirty years building his castle on the blood of my father and your mother's silence."

Daniel reached down, grabbing his coat.

"Now, Emily... we go tear his castle down."
