Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

The wedding took place on a breathtaking afternoon in early June, at a historic winery overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

There were no cameras streaming to uninvited relatives. There was no toxic family drama, no demands for financial contributions, and no whispered insults about my background or my worth.

There were only people who genuinely loved and respected us—loyal friends, supportive colleagues, and Julian’s wonderful, grounded family who welcomed me with open arms from day one.

As I stood before the flower-lined altar in my elegant, custom-made gown, holding Julian’s warm hands in mine while the minister pronounced us husband and wife, I thought back to that dark, rainy night in London when my phone had first buzzed at 2:16 in the morning.

How terrifying it had felt. How impossible the situation had seemed when my family tried to tear down my life with a stolen override code and a forged lease.

They had wanted to reduce me to nothing. They had wanted to prove that my success belonged to them, that my boundaries didn't matter, and that I was forever trapped in their toxic orbit.

Instead, their desperate gamble had exposed their true nature once and for all—and paved the way for me to step completely into my own power.

We didn't need their approval. We didn't need their validation.

We had built an unbreakable fortress of love, trust, and absolute mutual respect.

As the sun dipped below the mountain peaks, casting a golden glow over the celebration, Julian pulled me close for our first dance as husband and wife.

“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Vance?” he whispered, smiling down at me.

I rested my head against his shoulder, breathing in the scent of cedar and rain, completely at peace.

“I was just thinking,” I murmured, smiling into the dark fabric of his tuxedo, “that some break-ins are the best thing that ever happens to you.”
