Chapter 4 - The Puppet Masters

An hour later, Ryan had vacated the premises, but the storm was only beginning.

While packing his things, Ryan had called his mother in a panic. Within thirty minutes, Eleanor and Megan arrived at my front gate, leaning aggressively on the intercom until I finally let them into the driveway to end the noise.

I met them on the front porch, accompanied by two private security officers Marcus had hired to protect the property.

Eleanor marched up the steps, her face twisted in indignation. “How dare you throw my son out of his own house! How dare you threaten his family with lawyers!”

“You are trespassing, Eleanor,” I said calmly.

“You ungrateful little brat!” Megan sneered, stepping up beside her mother. “Ryan sacrificed everything for you! You think you’re better than us because your parents have money? You’ve always looked down on us!”

“I never looked down on you, Megan,” I replied, looking her dead in the eye. “I treated you like family. But you treated me like an bank account. Tell me, how is the house in Florida? Is the ocean view nice from the living room my grandfather’s trust paid for?”

Megan’s arrogant mask shattered instantly. She looked at her mother, terror flickering in her eyes.

Eleanor stepped forward, her voice dropping into a menacing whisper. “You listen to me, Clara. You will drop these legal threats immediately. Ryan signed those papers with your father’s consent—it was a verbal agreement!”

“A verbal agreement to forge a signature?” I laughed bitterly. “Good luck explaining that to the District Attorney. My father’s signature was notarized by a notary public who happens to be your cousin. We’ve already contacted the state licensing board.”

Eleanor went rigid. The grand illusion of the dominant, untouchable family was crumbling around them in real-time.

“You’re going to destroy this entire family over a mistake?” Eleanor choked out.

“You destroyed this family the moment you decided my parents were targets for your greed,” I said. “Get off my property before my security team has you removed in handcuffs.”
