Chapter 7 - The Mastermind Behind the Curtain

While Javier and Lydia were unraveling in Phoenix, my legal team and forensic accountants continued digging into the deep financial architecture of Lydia Management LLC.

Three days after the mediation session, Victoria called me into her office for an urgent late-night meeting.

When I arrived, she wasn't alone. Sitting across from her was Special Agent David Vance (no relation), an investigator from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.

"Naomi, take a seat," Victoria said, her expression dark and intense. "Agent Vance has uncovered something that goes far beyond a simple bitter divorce theft."

Agent Vance opened a thick black binder filled with international wire transfer receipts and corporate registration documents from the Cayman Islands.

"Ms. Vance," Agent Vance spoke in a calm, authoritative voice. "When your ex-husband transferred $320,000 into Lydia Management LLC, he wasn't just hoarding cash to buy property for his mistress. He was using that shell company to wash money for a commercial supplier based in California—Apex Chemical Holdings."

I frowned, trying to process the information. "Apex Chemical? That was my former raw materials supplier! I canceled my contract with them six months ago because their ingredient prices kept spiking randomly!"

"Their prices didn't spike," Agent Vance explained. "Javier was intentionally overpaying Apex Chemical using your business accounts by forty percent on every order. Apex would then refund thirty percent of that overpayment in cash into an offshore account in Grand Cayman owned by Lydia Carter."

My breath hitched in my throat. "It was a kickback scheme."

"It was a massive commercial tax evasion and money laundering syndicate," Agent Vance corrected me. "And Javier wasn't working alone. The CEO of Apex Chemical is a man named Richard Ross."

The room went dead silent.

"Ross?" I gasped. "Brittany Ross's father?!"

"Bingo," Victoria said, slamming a photograph onto the desk.

The picture showed Javier, Brittany, Lydia, and an older, wealthy-looking man with grey hair sipping champagne on a private yacht in San Diego.

"Richard Ross was facing bankruptcy with Apex Chemical three years ago," Agent Vance continued. "He met Javier at a trade convention. They devised a plan: Javier would use your highly profitable cosmetics business to funnel inflated supply invoices to Apex. In return, Ross allowed Javier to keep a thirty percent cut offshore, while introducing Javier to his daughter, Brittany."

The entire horror of the puzzle finally clicked together in my mind.

It wasn't just that Javier had fallen in love with another woman. Brittany Ross hadn't just seduced my husband—her father had systematically used her to anchor Javier to their criminal enterprise, ensuring that Naomi Vance Beauty Enterprises was sucked dry to keep both Apex Chemical and the Ross family afloat.

They had viewed me as an endless cash machine—a quiet, hardworking girl from Wyoming who would never ask questions, who would sign whatever papers were put in front of her, and who would quietly suffer in silence while they devoured everything I owned.

"How deep does this go?" I asked, my voice trembling with cold, focused fury.

"It's a multi-million-dollar federal crime, Ms. Vance," Agent Vance said. "We are executing search warrants on Apex Chemical headquarters in Los Angeles and Richard Ross's residence at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning."

"What do you need from me?" I asked, looking Agent Vance straight in the eyes.

Agent Vance smiled slightly. "Your forensic accountant provided the master encryption keys from Javier’s laptop. That was the smoking gun we needed to unseal the federal indictments. Tomorrow, the entire syndicate falls."
