Chapter 10 - The Master Ledger

Nathan opened the velvet box. Inside rested a breathtaking ring featuring a brilliant, flawless emerald surrounded by a band of polished platinum.

"Elena," Nathan spoke, his voice filled with a deep, unwavering devotion. "For a long time, I thought success was built on spreadsheets, stock valuations, and market dominance. You showed me that the only true wealth in this world is trust, courage, and love."

He took my hand, his thumb gently caressing my knuckles.

"You audited my company, you saved my life, and you captured my heart," Nathan smiled, his eyes shining with tears. "Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, my partner, and my equal for the rest of our lives?"

The guests nearby had quieted, watching the moment unfold with warm, genuine smiles. Down near the front table, my mother was wiping tears of joy from her eyes, supported by Marcus, who was beaming with pride.

I looked at Nathan—at the man who had stood between me and a gun, the man who had honored my dignity when I was wearing a maid's apron, and the man who had built a future alongside me based on truth.

"Yes, Nathan," I whispered, my voice brimming with complete happiness. "Yes. A thousand times, yes."

Nathan slipped the emerald ring onto my finger, pulling me into a fierce, loving embrace as the ballroom erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.

Later that night, long after the guests had departed and the mansion had settled into a peaceful, golden quiet, Nathan and I walked out onto the balcony overlooking the estate gardens.

The air was cool and scented with blooming night jasmine. The stars burned brightly above us, reflecting off the dark, tranquil waters of the estate fountain below.

I leaned my head against Nathan’s chest, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart beneath his jacket.

"What are you thinking about?" Nathan asked softly, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

I looked down at the emerald ring sparkling on my hand, then out at the peaceful grounds where I had once scrubbed floors in silence.

"I was just thinking about ledgers," I said with a soft, happy laugh.

"And what does the forensic analysis say, my love?" Nathan asked, kissing the top of my head.

I turned in his arms, wrapping my hands around his neck, looking into the eyes of the man I loved.

"The account is balanced," I smiled, pressing my lips softly against his. "The debts are cleared, the foundation is solid, and the future is priceless."
