Chapter 10 - The Rose and the Wolf

Six months later.

The Sicilian coast was bathed in the warm, golden light of an autumn sunset.

The ancient Rossy estate in Palermo—the very land that Julian Vance had tried to steal—stood high on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. White roses climbed the stone walls, filling the warm sea breeze with their sweet, intoxicating scent.

In the courtyard, a long wooden table was set with crisp linen, crystal glasses, and platters of fresh seafood, pasta, and aged wine.

Matteo sat at the end of the table, wearing a crisp dark suit without his shoulder holster for the first time in ten years, drinking wine and laughing with Lorenzo’s extended Sicilian family.

At the head of the table sat Lorenzo and Chloe.

Chloe looked radiant. She wore a simple, breathtaking white silk dress that caught the golden light of the setting sun. Around her neck hung a delicate gold chain holding a small pendant—a gold wolf entwined with a rose—the ancient crest of the Rossy family.

On her left hand, a flawless, emerald-cut diamond sparkled brightly under the Sicilian sky.

Lorenzo sat beside her, his hand resting warm and possessive over hers on the white tablecloth. He looked happier, younger, the hard lines of stress on his face softened by love and peace.

“A toast!” Matteo called out, standing up and raising his crystal glass high.

The long table fell silent as everyone turned to look at the head of the table.

“To Lorenzo,” Matteo said, his voice warm with genuine affection. “Who survived rival families, federal indictments, and thirty years of mafia wars... only to be completely conquered by a girl who broke her shoe on Wacker Drive.”

The guests erupted into warm laughter and applause, raising their glasses.

Lorenzo chuckled, shaking his head, but his eyes never left Chloe’s face.

He pulled her chair closer to his, leaning in until his breath warmed her ear.

“He’s not wrong, you know,” Lorenzo whispered softly.

Chloe turned her head, smiling up at her husband. “About the broken shoe?”

“About you conquering me,” Lorenzo murmured, his dark eyes filled with endless, unconditional love. “You saved my life, Chloe. You saved my soul. You turned a house of shadows into a home.”

Chloe reached up, gently touching his jaw, feeling the steady warmth of his skin.

“I didn't conquer you, Lorenzo,” she whispered back, her heart full to bursting. “I just corrected the math. We were always meant to add up to this.”

Lorenzo leaned down and kissed her under the golden Sicilian sunset—a long, sweet, passionate kiss that sealed their past, their present, and their endless future together.

Beyond the cliff, the Mediterranean sea sparkled like diamonds, calm, beautiful, and completely free.
