Chapter 4 - The Freeze

At 9:00 AM on Monday morning, the storm hit Ethan Hayes with full force.
Ethan sat in the corner office of Hayes Global Logistics—the firm his father had founded and which Ethan managed. He was surrounded by four nervous executives when the double glass doors swung open.
Sarah Vance, my lead attorney—a terrifyingly competent woman known across the state as the 'Iron Iron She-Wolf' of corporate litigation—marched in, accompanied by two uniformed deputy sheriffs and a court-appointed receiver.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Ethan screamed, slamming his pen onto his desk. “Get out of my office!”
Sarah Vance slid a forty-page court order onto his desk with a heavy thud.
“Mr. Hayes,” Sarah said calmly. “As of 8:30 AM, Judge Margaret Sterling of the Superior Court of Fulton County has issued an emergency freeze on all personal and corporate assets tied to your name, as well as those of Madison Evans.”
Ethan turned pale. “What?! On what grounds?!”
“On the grounds of civil fraud, medical conspiracy, embezzlement of non-profit charitable funds, and grand larceny,” Sarah replied, reading directly from the order. “Furthermore, an emergency writ of attachment has been executed on the estate at 1422 Peachtree Lane. You have two hours to vacate the premises before the locks are changed.”
“That’s my house!” Ethan yelled, his voice cracking.
“That house was purchased with funds drawn from the Hayes-Miller Foundation trust—a trust that you illegally restructured by forging Mrs. Claire Hayes’s signature on mental competency waivers,” Sarah corrected smoothly. “It was never your house, Mr. Hayes. It belonged to the foundation. And as of this morning, Claire Miller has been reinstated as sole Trustee and Executive Chairwoman.”
Ethan dropped into his executive leather chair, his hands pulling at his hair. “Where is she? Where is Claire?!”
“Mrs. Miller is currently at the foundation headquarters,” Sarah said, turning toward the door. “Reclaiming her life. Have a pleasant day, Mr. Hayes. The sheriffs will escort you out now.”
Outside the corporate tower, media vans were already assembling. News of the medical scandal involving Dr. Sterling, Fairview Clinic, and one of Atlanta’s most prominent logistics heirs had leaked to the press.
By noon, headlines flashed across every local and national news outlet:
