Chapter 6 - The Counter-Strike

Over the next two weeks, Alexander launched a ruthless, calculated campaign that stunned the New York business world. He didn't just attack Victoria legally; he targeted the very foundation of her power—the Sterling Group.

Alexander knew that Victoria’s wealth and influence were entirely dependent on her legacy shares in the family’s real estate empire. He systematically began contacting the company’s primary investors, banks, and board members. Using his own personal shares and the support of the majority board members who were horrified by the public relations nightmare Victoria had created, Alexander called an emergency board meeting.

The meeting took place in the glass-walled boardroom of the Sterling Tower, overlooking Central Park.

Victoria arrived late, wearing a sharp cream suit and her signature pearls, trying to project an aura of unshakeable confidence. She was accompanied by Julian Vance and two high-priced defense attorneys.

When she entered, she was shocked to find that Alexander was not sitting at the head of the table. Instead, the seat was occupied by an independent arbitrator.

"What is the meaning of this?" Victoria demanded, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "Alexander, take your seat. We have a crisis to manage."

Alexander stood near the window, his hands in his pockets. He looked calm, rested, and entirely unbothered by her presence.

"I don't have a crisis to manage, Victoria," Alexander said, turning around to face her. "But you do."

The independent arbitrator stepped forward. "Mrs. Victoria Sterling, under Article 8, Section 4 of the Sterling Group’s corporate bylaws, any board member or major shareholder who engages in conduct that causes significant reputational damage or financial harm to the corporation can be stripped of their voting rights and forced to liquidate their shares at current book value."

Victoria’s face paled slightly, but she maintained her defiant sneer. "Reputational damage? My family has run this city for generations. This minor family dispute will blow over in a week."

"It's not a minor dispute anymore," Alexander said, walking to the table and tossing a heavy leather folder in front of her. "This is a federal indictment."

One of Victoria's attorneys grabbed the folder, opening it quickly. As he scanned the pages, his face drained of color. He looked up at Victoria with a expression of pure defeat.

"Mrs. Sterling..." the attorney whispered. "The Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened a formal inquiry into Victoria Estates LLC. They have traced the wire transfers from Alexander’s personal accounts. They also found evidence of tax evasion and illegal offshore sheltering of corporate dividends dating back five years."

"What?" Victoria gasped, her eyes widening. She spun around to Julian Vance. "Julian! You told me those accounts were secure! You told me they were invisible!"

Julian couldn't look her in the eye. He stared at his hands, trembling. "Alexander... Alexander offered me immunity, Victoria. I had to protect myself. I gave them the ledger. I gave them the security codes."

The betrayal was complete. Victoria’s most loyal ally had turned on her to save his own skin.

"You... you rat!" Victoria screamed, lunging toward Julian, but her attorneys held her back.

"It’s over, Mother," Alexander said, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion. "The board has already voted. You are officially removed from the Sterling Group. Your shares are being liquidated at book value, but you won't see a single penny of that money. The federal government has placed a freezing order on all your assets to secure the restitution of the embezzled funds and the unpaid taxes."

Victoria stared at her son, her chest heaving with rage and panic. For the first time in her life, she looked small. She looked vulnerable.

"You would do this to your own mother?" she whispered, her voice cracking. "I raised you, Alexander. I made you the man you are today."

May you like

"No," Alexander said, shaking his head. "You taught me how to be ruthless. But my wife and my daughter... they taught me how to be a man. Security will escort you out of the building, Victoria. Your office has already been cleared."

As Victoria was led out of the boardroom by two large security guards, her heels clicking weakly against the marble floor, Alexander let out a long, slow breath. The empire was safe. But his real work was just beginning.
