Chapter 10 - The Canvas of Tomorrow

One year later.
The morning sun over Times Square was warm, casting a beautiful golden light over the bustling streets below.
The digital billboard above the intersection—the same four-story screen that had once threatened to ruin Julian Sinclair’s life—glowed with a new image.
It was a painting, not a sketch. It was filled with vibrant colors—deep blues, warm oranges, and brilliant golds. It showed the interior of a subway car, filled with people of every shape, size, and color. In the center of the car, sitting hand-in-hand, were a man in a tailored suit and a woman with a paint-flecked sleeve, their eyes locked on each other, entirely oblivious to the crowd around them.
Beneath the painting were four simple words:
THIS IS OUR CITY.
Norah stood in the middle of the crosswalk, wearing a clean, white linen shirt. Her hand was no longer smudged with graphite, but she held a wooden paintbrush in her pocket.
A hand slid into hers, warm and solid.
She looked up.
Julian stood beside her, wearing a simple gray suit, his eyes bright with a peace she had never seen in him during those first nine subway stops.
Vance Sinclair had been officially indicted for digital forgery and corporate espionage six months earlier, and Hudson Rise was currently being built—with fifty percent of its units dedicated to affordable housing and a massive public park named after the transit workers of New York.
“It looks beautiful up there,” Julian said, looking at the painting of them.
“It’s a bit flattering,” Norah teased, leaning her head against his shoulder.
“No,” Julian said, turning to look at her, his face filled with a love that was no longer a secret. “It’s perfect. It’s exactly who we are.”

A tourist beside them lifted her phone to take a picture of the screen. “Can you imagine being the artist who painted that?” she asked her friend.
Norah and Julian shared a private, beautiful smile, before turning away from the crowd and walking down the steps into the subway station, ready to find their next stop, together.
