Chapter 7 - The Unraveling

The fallout was swift and catastrophic for the corrupt networks of Chicago.

Lorenzo hadn't killed Tyrell. He knew that a dead cop was a martyr, but a disgraced, living cop was a wrecking ball.

Using the files on the flash drive, Lorenzo’s legal team directly bypassed the local precinct and delivered the unencrypted data to the Department of Justice and the FBI’s Special Corruption Task Force.

Within forty-eight hours, the truth dominated national headlines:

POLICE CORRUPTION RING EXPOSED: Decorated Detective Tyrell Vance Arrested for Extortion, Evidence Tampering, and Conspiracy with Marcone Crime Syndicate.

COLD CASE REOPENED: Investigation into the Death of Sarah Miller Reinstated Following New Flash Drive Evidence.

THE SILENT WITNESS: How a Domestic Violence Survivor Exposed a Decade of Organized Crime.

Inside a secure federal holding facility in downtown Chicago, Tyrell sat in an orange jumpsuit, his hands cuffed to the table. Lorenzo stepped into the room, accompanied not by lawyers, but by the Lead Federal Prosecutor.

Tyrell looked up, his face bruised, his smugness completely gone, replaced by the hollow panic of a caged predator.

"You think you won, Moretti?" Tyrell spat, his voice trembling. "Marcone will kill you. My guys in the department will tear your life apart."

Lorenzo sat down across from him, leaning forward, his cold gray eyes locking onto Tyrell's.

"Marcone was arrested an hour ago at his estate in Lake Forest," Lorenzo said softly. "Your 'guys' in the department are currently turning on each other, offering testimony to avoid federal prison sentences. And as for Sarah Miller... her file has been updated. You're being charged with first-degree murder."

Tyrell’s face drained of color. "She... she had no proof..."

"She had enough," Lorenzo replied, standing up. "And her sister had the courage you never possessed. You tried to make Harper feel small, Tyrell. You tried to turn her daughter silent. But in the end, it was their voices that buried you."

Lorenzo turned and walked out of the interrogation room, leaving Tyrell alone in the harsh white light of his new reality.
