Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm

Over the next two weeks, I played the part of the obedient, grieving heir by day, and operated as an operative by night. The Vance fortune was vast, but its foundation was built on shell companies, illicit offshore trusts, and political coercion—all managed directly by my mother through a vault of classified documents stored at the main headquarters.

I met Marcus at a secluded wharf in the harbor. Rain pelted the rusted shipping containers around us.

"Mr. Vance," Marcus handed me a encrypted flash drive. "I traced the funding for the Vermont facility. It leads directly to an off-the-books account funded by Vance Logistics. But there's a problem."

"What problem?"

"Your mother's chief legal counsel, Arthur Pendelton, signed off on the medical transfer papers that declared Lena legally dead three years ago. If Pendelton realizes we're digging into those accounts, he'll scrub the servers immediately."

"Pendelton is loyal only to money," I replied, watching the gray waves crash against the dock. "He has an offshore account in the Caymans where he hides his personal embezzlement from my mother. We don't ask him to betray her—we blackmail him into silence while we pull the real records."

"And what about the corporate board?" Marcus asked. "If you move against Evelyn openly, the board will strip your executive power before you can cast a vote."

"They won't get the chance," I said coldly. "I'm not aiming for a board meeting, Marcus. I'm aiming for a total forfeiture of assets. I want her stripped of every dollar, every property, and every shred of authority she holds."

That night, I initiated the secret liquidation of my personal trust fund, transferring over forty million dollars into secure international holding accounts to finance the legal defense and security force required for the war ahead.
