Chapter 7 - The Siege of Gold Coast

The glass windows of the lower floor shattered beneath a barrage of heavy gunfire.

Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled me toward the reinforced panic room hidden behind the nursery's bookshelf.

"Get inside with Mateo!" Dominic ordered, his eyes blazing with tactical focus. "The walls are three-inch steel plate. The signal jammer won't affect the hardwired emergency line inside."

"Dominic, no! Come inside with us!" I pleaded, holding Mateo tightly against my chest as the baby began to cry from the deafening noise.

"If I go inside, they will surround this room and blow the door," Dominic said, gripping my face in his large hands, pulling my forehead against his. "I have to lead them away. I have to protect my family."

Family. The word echoed through my chest, sending a surge of fierce determination through my veins.

"Promise me you'll come back," I demanded, looking into his eyes. "Promise me, Dominic!"

"I promise," he whispered, kissing my forehead gently.

He shoved us inside the secret compartment, pulled the heavy steel door shut, and the lock engaged with a loud pneumatic hiss.

Inside, the panic room was dimly lit by emergency battery lights. A high-definition monitor bank connected to reinforced external cameras showed the hallway outside.

On the screen, I watched in breathless terror as Dominic stood in the nursery doorway holding two heavy pistols.

A squad of eight masked mercenaries in tactical gear flooded the third-floor corridor.

What followed was a display of absolute, terrifying lethality. Dominic moved like a phantom, utilizing the corners and doorways of his home with deadly precision. He fired with surgical accuracy, taking down four attackers within seconds, while Marco and his loyal guards flanked the remaining intruders from the service stairs.

Within three minutes, the gunfire stopped.

The hallway was quiet, filled with smoke and shattered plaster.

I watched the monitor screen, my heart in my throat, searching for Dominic.

He stood near the nursery doorway, his suit torn, bleeding from a graze on his arm, but standing tall. He reloaded his weapon, stepping over the fallen mercenaries.

Suddenly, a hidden door near the end of the hall swung open.

Ginevra Moretti stepped out, holding a small, silver snub-nosed revolver, pointing it directly at Dominic’s back. She had escaped from the holding cell during the power grid failure.

"Dominic!" I screamed inside the soundproof panic room, hammering my fist uselessly against the steel door.

She pulled the trigger.
