Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING ON STAGE

Julian tried to move toward the side exits, but two large men in dark charcoal suits quietly stepped into his path, blocking the doors.

On stage, Ethan motioned for a technician at the side panel.

The massive projection screens behind the podium—normally used to display pictures of charitable projects in Africa and South AMERICA—flickered and lit up.

Instead of pictures of schools and hospitals, a audio waveform appeared on the screens, accompanied by crisp, high-definition security video footage.

The video showed the interior of the Carter Mansion’s private garage from two nights ago.

Julian’s voice rang through the ballroom speakers, clear, distinct, and unmistakable:

“We have a disaster on our hands, Stefan! The twins are walking! If Grace remembers what she saw in the garage before they drove off... If Ethan links the brake failure on Eleanor’s SUV to the mechanical shop you hired, we’re both going to spend the rest of our lives in a Swiss federal prison!”

The ballroom froze. Gasps of horror erupted from the distinguished guests! Ambassadors lowered their glasses; socialites covered their mouths in terror.

“Turn it off!” Julian screamed, trying to charge toward the stage. “It’s a fake! It’s a AI manipulation!”

Ethan did not pause. He clicked a small remote in his hand.

The screen changed. It showed bank transaction ledgers from Liechtenstein detailing three million dollars paid from Victoria Sterling’s private account to an offshore pharmaceutical laboratory specializing in synthetic neurotoxins.

Beside the document was a chemical analysis report dated three hours ago, showing high levels of the exact same neurotoxin found inside a canister of imported organic tea seized from Victoria’s personal vehicle.

“Victoria Sterling,” Ethan’s voice boomed across the hall like judgment from heaven. “Julian Carter. For two years, you poisoned my innocent daughters. You murdered my wife Eleanor. You sought to destroy everything I built for your own pathetic, disgusting greed.”

Victoria shrieked, backing away as guests shrank away from her in absolute disgust. “Julian! Do something!”

The side doors of the ballroom burst open!

Sergeant Laurent and twelve armed officers of the Swiss Cantonal Police flooded the room, their badges gleaming under the chandeliers.

“Julian Carter! Victoria Sterling! Stefan Vance!” Laurent announced through a megaphone. “You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, high treason, felony forgery, and child abuse!”

Stefan Vance, who had been standing near the back, drew a concealed pistol from his jacket!

“GET DOWN!” a police officer yelled!

The crowd screamed, panicking as people dived behind tables!

Stefan aimed his weapon directly at Ethan on the stage!

Before he could pull the trigger, Maya stepped forward to the edge of the stage. She didn't hide. She didn't scream. She looked directly into Stefan’s frantic, desperate eyes and spoke a single word that seemed to resonate through the air:

“Stop.”

A sudden, sharp shockwave of static electricity ripped through the room’s sound system! The massive crystal chandelier directly above Stefan’s head swung violently! A heavy glass pendant detached and plummeted straight down, striking Stefan’s hand with lethal precision!

CRACK!

The gun clattered to the floor! Police officers tackled Stefan to the ground, slamming him into handcuffs before he could recover!

Julian tried to run toward the kitchen doors, but Ethan stepped off the stage, intercepted him in three long strides, grabbed his half-brother by the collar of his expensive suit, and threw him forcefully against the marble pillar!

Julian slid down to the floor, gasping for air, staring up at his brother in absolute terror.

“Ethan... please...” Julian wept, blood dripping from his lip. “I’m your brother... blood... we’re blood...”

Ethan leaned down, his eyes colder than the winter storm outside.

“My blood is standing on that stage,” Ethan whispered. “You are nothing to me.”

Police officers pulled Julian up, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists, and dragged him, along with Victoria and Stefan, out of the ballroom in front of every camera and high-society reporter in Geneva.
