Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the Realm

With the legal nightmare officially behind them, the Mercer estate underwent a total transformation.

Julian hired a renowned interior designer to completely renovate the mansion, stripping away every piece of cold, opulent decor chosen by Vanessa. The house was refurnished with warm woods, soft leathers, vibrant artwork, and family photographs of Clara, Julian, and Ethan.

The carriage house where Ophelia had once resided was completely demolished. In its place, Julian built a state-of-the-art sports complex and art studio for Ethan, featuring a basketball court, a music room, and an observatory roof where they could look at the stars.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Ethan’s thirteenth birthday arrived.

The estate’s vast back lawn, once the site of quiet isolation, was filled with the sound of music, laughter, and dozens of kids. Ethan had invited his entire seventh-grade class, his soccer teammates, and their families. Tables were laden with food, a massive bouncy castle stood near the garden, and a live DJ played Ethan’s favorite songs.

Julian stood on the terrace, watching Ethan run across the grass, laughing hysterically as he dribbled a soccer ball past three of his best friends.

Marcus walked up, handing Julian a cold beer. “Quite a change from six months ago, my friend.”

Julian smiled, taking a sip. “It feels like a real home now, Marcus.”

“The Mercer-Vane trust was officially transferred to Ethan’s name this morning,” Marcus added, leaning against the stone balustrade. “It’s fully protected in an independent ethical board until he turns twenty-five. He is officially one of the wealthiest young men in the country.”

Julian looked out at his son, who was currently celebrating a goal with his friends.

“The money doesn't matter, Marcus,” Julian said softly. “What matters is that he knows he’s loved. That’s the only inheritance that truly lasts.”
