Chapter 7 - The Master of Shadows

The next morning, New York woke up to a financial earthquake.
Alexander Ashford mobilized the full weight of Ashford Enterprises. He released hidden audit reports detailing Senator Lane’s illegal offshore accounts, human trafficking connections with foreign syndicates, and years of corporate bribery.
By noon, the FBI had launched a raid on the Lane Group headquarters in Wall Street.
However, Senator Lane was not a man to go down quietly.
Cornered and desperate, he hired The Ghost of Manila—a legendary master of dark martial arts named Master Victor Kintanar. Victor had been a rival of Miguel Reyes thirty years ago in the Philippines, a man who had turned the sacred arts into a lucrative assassination business.
That evening, a handwritten letter delivered to Sophia’s apartment contained a single challenge:
Sophia Reyes. Your father’s weak philosophy died six years ago. If you want to save Alexander Ashford, come alone to the abandoned docks at Pier 42 at midnight. If you bring the police, he dies. — Kintanar
Sophia held the note, her hands steady.
Alexander had been ambushed on his way to the district attorney's office an hour earlier. His armored car had been rammed, and his bodyguards knocked unconscious. He was now held hostage at Pier 42.
"Sophia, no," Elena wept, clutching her daughter’s arm. "It’s a trap! That man... Victor Kintanar... your father told me about him! He kills without mercy!"
Sophia picked up her father’s wrapped wooden practice sticks. She tied them securely to her back beneath a black high-necked jacket.

She looked at her mother with a smile full of gentle, unshakeable warmth.
"Father didn't teach me to fight so I could win victories, Mom," Sophia said softly. "He taught me so I could protect the people I love. Alexander saved my life at the hotel. Now I’m going to bring him home."
