Chapter 9 - The Quiet Current

It was not a fight. It was an ancient clash of philosophies.

Kintanar moved with terrifying, explosive speed. His palms slashed through the air like iron blades, aiming for Sophia’s throat, eyes, and ribs. His strikes carried enough power to break bone through concrete.

Swoosh! Swoosh! BANG!

Sophia didn't meet power with power.

She flowed. Her wooden sticks whirled in tight, defensive spirals, catching Kintanar’s strikes at their weakest points, redirecting his crushing force into the empty air around her.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

The sound of wood meeting flesh echoed through the dark warehouse.

Kintanar grew frustrated. His dark, violent style relied on terrifying his opponent, but Sophia’s face remained completely serene. Her eyes were calm, her breathing steady.

Four counts in. Four counts out.

"Stop hiding behind your father's defense!" Kintanar roared, leaping into the air with a deadly spinning heel kick aimed at her skull.

Sophia didn't retreat.

She took a half-step forward, entering the eye of his storm. She crossed her two wooden sticks into an 'X', catching Kintanar’s ankle in mid-air. With a sudden, beautiful rotation of her hips, she absorbed his momentum and spun him through the air.

Kintanar crashed heavily onto a wooden crate, shattering it into splinters.

He scrambled up, coughing blood, his terrifying aura cracking. "How... how are you doing this? You haven't trained in six years!"

Sophia lowered her sticks, her voice clear and resonant. "You fight to destroy, Master Kintanar. I fight to protect. That is why my current never runs dry."

Kintanar let out a desperate, feral scream, drawing a hidden double-edged dagger from his belt and lunging straight for her heart.

Sophia didn't use the sticks.

She dropped them onto the floor.

As Kintanar reached her, Sophia executed the ultimate technique of the Reyes lineage—the Silent Tide.

Her left palm struck Kintanar’s inner wrist, disarming the knife instantly. Her right hand glided up his chest, catching his shoulder joint, while her leg swept behind his heel. In one continuous, unbroken motion, she redirected his entire momentum into a graceful, non-lethal throw.

Kintanar flew backward ten feet, hitting the concrete floor with a final, heavy thud. He tried to rise, but his nerves were temporarily short-circuited by Sophia’s precise pressure-point locks. He collapsed, unconscious.

Senator Lane panicked. He grabbed a revolver from his desk and pointed it at Sophia, his hand shaking uncontrollably. "Stay back! Stay back, you monster!"

Before Sophia had to move, Alexander—having managed to loosen his ropes during the fight—swung his chair violently into Lane’s back.

The Senator crashed face-first onto the floor, the gun spinning away.

Victoria shrieked, falling to her knees in tears as the heavy thrum of police helicopters suddenly illuminated the warehouse windows with blinding white searchlights.

FBI agents burst through the doors, weapons raised. "DON'T MOVE! FEDERAL AGENTS!"

The night was over.
