Chapter 5 - Unveiling the Phantom

A slow, haunting cello melody began to play over the speakers.
At the top of the staircase stood Evelyn Hart.
The room collectively held its breath. Evelyn looked breathtaking. She wore an exquisite, hand-tailored gown made of charcoal-gray recycled silk, featuring a dramatic asymmetrical neckline and intricate, silver-threaded embroidery that caught the light like liquid moonlight. Her hair was swept up in an elegant vintage twist, and her posture was commandingly regal.
Behind her stepped six international models, each wearing breathtaking, structured garments—coats, suits, and gowns—that made Sloane's gold dress look like a flimsy, mass-produced rag.
"Evelyn?!" Adrian's voice cracked across the silent ballroom. He went pale as snow, his champagne glass slipping from his fingers and shattering against the hardwood floor.
Sloane froze at the podium, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the brass edges. "What is this?! Security! Remove her!"
No security moved. Dominic Vale’s men lined the perimeter of the ballroom, standing like immovable iron statues.
Evelyn descended the stairs slowly, her eyes locked directly on Adrian. Every movement was calm, deliberate, and entirely devoid of fear.
Dominic stepped out from the shadows at the base of the stairs, wearing a bespoke suit, and extended his hand. Evelyn took it, stepping onto the main floor beside him.
"What is the meaning of this, Mr. Vale?" the Mayor demanded, looking confused between Adrian and Dominic.
Dominic smiled—a sharp, lethal expression. "Mr. Mayor, members of the council... you are about to award forty million dollars of public funds to a corporate fraud. The collection you see on my models tonight is the real Renewal collection—designed, cut, and stitched by the actual artist, Evelyn Hart."
"That's a lie!" Sloane screamed from the stage, her voice high and panicked. "She was a domestic assistant! She stole those concepts from my personal studio in San Diego!"

Evelyn stepped forward, taking a wireless microphone from Dominic’s chief of security. Her voice rang out clear, steady, and resonant across the ballroom.
"If those designs belong to you, Sloane," Evelyn said, her eyes piercing through her former husband's mistress, "then perhaps you can explain why every single garment in your presentation features a hidden seam code... based on my mother's seamstress registry number from Cleveland, Ohio?"
