Chapter 9 - The House of Hart & Vale

Six months later.
The historic French Quarter was buzzing with excitement. The grand opening of the flagship Hart & Vale Atelier on Royal Street was the most anticipated event of the southern fashion calendar.
The building—a restored three-story historic brick landmark—featured floor-to-ceiling glass windows displaying Evelyn's sustainable autumn collection. Every piece was made from ethically sourced, recycled materials, hand-stitched by local artisans whom Evelyn paid three times the standard industry wage.
Inside, the grand opening party was packed with international buyers, top fashion editors, local political figures, and press from New York, Paris, and London.
Evelyn walked through the room in an emerald silk jumpsuit of her own creation, greeting guests with warm, authentic grace.
Dominic stood near the entrance, leaning against a marble pillar, watching her with a quiet, fierce pride. He no longer looked like the terrifying mob boss rumors made him out to be; in her presence, his sharp edges melted into something protective, loyal, and deeply tender.
As the crowd cheered during Evelyn’s opening speech, Dominic walked up beside her, taking her hand in front of the entire gathering.
"Eight months ago," Evelyn told the audience, looking into the cameras, "someone told me that a stitch hidden on the inside didn't matter. They told me that only the surface mattered. But true strength isn't built on the surface. It's built in the hidden seams—the quiet moments where you choose to pick yourself up after being thrown down."

She turned her head, looking up at Dominic with warmth in her eyes. "And sometimes, you find people who recognize the value of those hidden seams and help you sew them back together."
The applause that followed was deafening.
