Chapter 6 - The Clean Sweep

The executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of Hale International was a fortress of glass, steel, and intimidating corporate power. The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking, sweeping view of the Seattle skyline under a crisp, clearing autumn sky.
Around the long, polished obsidian conference table sat twelve of the most powerful investors, stakeholders, and board directors in the Pacific Northwest.
The atmosphere was electric with tension. Whispers ricocheted off the glass walls. Word had already leaked that Richard Vance had been abruptly terminated under federal investigation, and the emergency board meeting called by CEO Victor Hale was expected to be a volatile bloodbath.
The heavy double doors swung open.
Victor strode into the room, impeccably dressed in a charcoal three-piece suit, his posture rigid, his expression an absolute mask of cold, unyielding authority. But unlike previous board meetings, he wasn't alone.
Walking right beside him was Amelia Brooks.
She wore a sharp, elegant navy blazer over a simple silk blouse, her dark hair neatly pinned back, carrying a secure leather portfolio case. She wasn't shrinking into the background; she walked with the quiet, unshakable poise of someone who knew exactly why she belonged there.
A collective murmur erupted around the table.
"Victor," Marcus Sterling, the senior board member and long-time ally of Richard Vance, scoffed loudly, leaning back in his leather chair with an arrogant smirk. "What is the meaning of this? Why is a domestic employee sitting at the executive table during a confidential board proceeding?"
Victor didn't flinch. He walked to the head of the table, placed both hands flat on the obsidian surface, and leaned forward slightly, fixing Marcus with a predatory gaze that made the older man shift uncomfortably in his seat.
"Clear your schedule, Marcus," Victor said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade. "Effective immediately, your voting shares on the oversight committee are frozen pending an internal audit of your offshore accounts—accounts that match the exact routing numbers used by Richard Vance to funnel embezzled capital out of our tech division."
Marcus’s face turned the color of spoiled milk. He half-rose from his chair, slamming his palms onto the table. "You can't do that! That’s an outrageous accusation! I demand proof—"
"Proof?" Victor straightened up, gesturing to Amelia with a flick of his wrist. "Amelia, if you please."
Amelia stepped forward, opening her leather portfolio and sliding a thick stack of verified financial documents across the table directly in front of Marcus.
"These files contain encrypted wire transfers, signed affidavits from federal informants, and complete digital backups retrieved from Richard Vance’s secondary server," Amelia stated, her voice clear, confident, and ringing with absolute authority. "Every transaction links back to three shell companies registered under your name, Mr. Sterling. The federal marshals are already downstairs waiting to escort you off the premises."
The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could hear a pin drop on the thick wool carpet. The directors stared at the documents in stunned disbelief, realizing in one terrifying moment that the quiet nanny wasn't just a caregiver—she was the master strategist who had dismantled their entire corrupt syndicate in less than twenty-four hours.
Marcus collapsed back into his chair, defeated, sweating profusely as two corporate security guards stepped silently into the room, placing their hands firmly on his shoulders.

"Get him out of my sight," Victor commanded softly.
As Marcus was dragged out of the boardroom in disgrace, Victor turned his head, looking down the table toward Amelia. Their eyes met, and a silent, profound understanding passed between them—a shared victory built not on deceit and corporate greed, but on absolute truth and unbreakable loyalty.
